So i still don't have a bike, i retook my CBT quite a few months ago but still haven't learned how to use gears, I know it in theory but never practised (passed on a scooter). I don't have anyone to show me the ropes so do you guys think it would be okay to ask my previous instructor for a few hours (with pay) to help me learn? I really don't want to be stuck with scooters and not sure if this is a normal request lol

Well morally you should really ask via the school that employs him or her. Also, as you don't have a bike yet I'm not quite sure what you would ride on... the CBT bikes are generally owned by the school not their instructors.

A cheaper option would be to have a friend or relative show you the ropes. If you can already ride a scooter it's only one more thing to learn... erm... okay two including the clutch Smile

Any training school should be happy to take your money for some time on their bike. Half day training for about £100 seems to be about the going rate!

You can switch to a geared bike without lessons. However, it would be good to have some instruction, and if you haven't got a friendly knowledgeable person to call on for practical help, yes, I would certainly call up your friendly local CBT trainers and ask about it, they will be helpful. There may be useful info. on their websites, too. You should be able to find one who has a geared bike to use.

Look into "how it works" on t'internet too. Animations are interesting, there's a long and dreadfully dul but still interesting one here to give a general idea, it's good to know something of how these things work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2CybLSrN5Q (look up clutches, too).

It could be cheaper to do another CBT on a geared bike.
At least that way you'll get a full day on a geared bike?

I'd just do your CBT again but on a geared bike. From what I recall, about 60% of the time is spent actually learning to ride the bike; yes you've done the exercises before, but it's going to be a useful exercise to do them again on a geared bike. Then after doing all your clutch control etc. you get a few hours riding on the road too.

Question though; have you got a car (manual) licence? If not and you're learning to use the clutch from scratch, it might be a little more challenging?
