Hello all

The time has come when I need to retire the 125 and upgrade to something more substantial.
I've always been a striple fan and the 675 falls right within my price range.
However.... I've read a load of conflicting stuff online on whether it can be restricted to 35kw or not. Some say it can, some say it needs a different cam to the stock 675 before it can be restricted?
Could anyone shed some light/clarify it for me? And if it can be restricted, what type of restrictor it is?

A2 licence regs say 45Kw max and if restricted, restricted by no more than 50% of standard original.
According to Wiki, all years of the 675 claimed over 90Kw, so you'd run foul of the 50% restriction rule before you started, let alone working oyt any over-restriction that may be needed to meet power to weight regs etc.
In short, it's "probably" a non starter; going by manufacturers claims that plod and wiki tend to, would mean its beyond what you might have legally on A2 licence. ISTR that post 2013, Triumph did offer some varients of some models in an A2 or A2 restrictable guise; but whether the 675 was one of them? I dont know, and its a whole can of worms best avoided if you can... I mean, would you really want this argument over google numbers with some dullard plod at the side of the road when you want to get some-where, and have probably been tugges cos of something far more obviouse he thinks would make his rap-stats look better that month? A case where being 'right' is small solace and potentially actually unhelpful....
A2 restrictions are in force only as long as A2 licence is in force, and if you have got an A2, it allows a fast track to RWYL A at two years.... so, is it a great loss to your life to wait it out?
Many many good reasons that likely a good idea anyway, and not related to A2 licence limitations; jump on your dream bike straight away, with little or nothing else to compare it to, you will either not appreciate it, or be able to critisise it... and good odds you'll stuff it!
Go for something more mundane, earn a couple of years NCB along the way, with a bit of luck, save some pennies into the bargain, and potential lectures in the rain; then, go RWYL'A' save the hassles and be better able to insure it, in a couple of years time.... that is what I would say.
Wisdom of old, is that RUSHIN' be fast way to PAIN, on two wheels... so why rush?

The 675 is 79kW isn’t it? If so then no, you can’t restrict it for A2 use.

I've had an STR and it was a lovely bike however I very much doubt it would restrict well. You would probably end up hating it for lack of power as it's designed as a fun bike, a bike to take on sports bike riders on a sunny Sunday, not a plodder.

Get something that restricts Ok, pass our test or whatever you have to do now and then get a stripple. Thumbs Up
