Vstrom extra luggage pack advice please

Hello all!

I am happy owner of https://www.chelseamotorcycles.co.uk/shopping/bikes/suzuki-adventure-sports-touring-bikes/v-strom-250/ - and wanted to ask (especially female riders). I wish to buy 20l side case set and 30l top box kit for it - but I am afraid that these sets will make my bike less controllable on the road. Could you tell me please will it happen - or these sets will not inflict my riding experience? Smile Just want to be safe on the road...

Any advice or recommendations are welcome!

Especially with a smaller bike there will be noticeable effect particularly if it's windy, and that includes buffeting from trucks etc.
Rather less than carrying pillion.
The worst thing is extra width when filtering and parking - you get used to it.

I'm not a fan of hard luggage unless you really need it though.
Soft options are more versatile, cheaper and easier to transfer.
I practically only use a tail bag and/or tankbag

Shame, it's a shitty fucking single Laughing still waiting for that 300/400 v twin.

Up until recently I agreed completely. I had panniers on my BMW, but never really used them as they made the bike a bit fat for filtering. I've used only a bag strapped across the pillion seat / rack for years.
However..... I have just bought a top box. I've got to the point of being fed up with having to strap a bag on and off the bike all the time and if I stop anywhere it's not secure. Also when it's pissing with rain the outside of the bag gets wet and covered in road dirt which means I have a filthy bag to carry into work or the house. It's an ortlieb like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ortlieb-Rack-Pack-Travel-Bag-Black/dp/B000XYULO8/ref=cts_sp_2_vtp so water never gets in it.
The box I've gone for is a massive Givi Trekker 52l. For me, it means I can leave the waterproof over suit in the box, along with a small airman pump and other odds and sods that won't fit under the seat (toolkit and first aid kit live there). If your bike has a decent under seat storage and you wear waterproof textiles all the time none of that matters to you.
It really depends on how you're going to use the bike.

The security aspect of hard luggage is not to be sniffed at - yes I know it's really not that secure, but at least the goods aren't on display to all and sundry; and there will be people who say "I've left soft baggage strapped to my parked-up bike all over the world and never had a problem". Personally I wouldn't be able to relax at all, and much prefer the hard stuff in those circumstances.

My "system": I have a small topbox fitted all the time, and add hard panniers just when touring. They have liners, which I can just lift out to take into hotels on one-nighters, rather than lugging the panniers inside.
