Ive been looking at possible alternatives to the MT, and ive come across an old favorite updated thats much smaller but i remember having a lot of fun on that i might go for next year once my current insurance is up..

https://scooterlab.uk/the-2019-honda-super-cub-125-road-test/

Is it mad to go from a 'proper' bike down to this? Are people going to think (even) less of me and think im the biggest fairy ever to have graced BCF?
Surely you old farts had its ancestor many years ago?

I had it's great grandfather back in the 70's.

All that really sticks in my mind is that wheelying it was great fun due to the semi auto box and it handled like shit. Laughing

I think as a second bike, fine but primary transport? only if you are off down the local shops.

I currently have it's ancient competitor the Yam V75A Laughing (though it's broken....again).

I was at Blade Swindon looking at these alongside the monkey and the MSX yesterday. Aesthetically I think they have done a really good job, I'd rather the monkey or msx though. Any of them as a main form of transport to replace an MT? I wouldn't.

I understand the appeal appeal of little bikes (currently on route to Applecross on my cg125 via Braemar) but having one as an only bike if you do anything but run about town would get frustrating fast.

Lol... I was just thinking I have the original, green LCD screen, Palm Pilot in my drawer and every now and then I dig it out, power it up (only AA batteries!) and sit it next to my Galaxy Note phone Very Happy

YBR125 is what I'd go for, for a cheap run around - CG125s are still pretty with their cult status.

I've had a few original C90s from when they were cheap - mostly for racing purposes, but was one completely stock. They sucked, but when you pay a few hundred quid, it's not too bad.

Not at all mad.

I never had it's ancestor, mainly used for "The Knowledge"

We all feel the need to have an old favourite but I would never replace what you have now for one.

With those though they're not what you once had - it's a bit like original Mini and modern Mini. Not the same thing. Take a look at it and tell me is anything matches with the original? I bet even the tyres are different sizes.
Many older bikes were loved for their quirks. I've had 5 Cubs over the years and loved them for how little they cost to buy (way back in the day), how little they cost to repair (if they ever broke) and how easy a repair actually was. True story: I once replaced a main bearing on the crankshaft in my kitchen on an evening after work. The bearing cost a few notes.

I'd say buy if you want but keep what you have too. Me? I'm still drooling over a Yamaha RXS100. They've not gained that retro tax most other things seem to have gotten and parts are still cheap and plentiful.

I find a 125 limiting for anything outside of my daily commute. Went from ZX-10R to CRF250L to MSX125 in the last 18 months. I love the 125 for my 15-mile commute, but it's mostly twisty lanes and limited to ~50. But do I want to go from Surrey to Birmingham on it to see my mates? Confused

250 was perfect for me, shame some bastard stole it.

Might not be a bad idea, after posts about being troubled by handling issues and trying to find the ultimate protective armour, your bottle has obviously gone, large style.

Get a toy bike and learn how to ride it, then step back up.

A mate of mine had a C90 back in the early 80s. For riding up and down farm tracks. It was a good laugh.

I had to make do with my dad's old 1969 Puch Maxi that he gave me when he upgraded to a GP100 in 1981 (I also inherited that a few years later when my folks could finally afford to run two cars).

Not sure I'd want to spend over £3000 on a new honda Cub to be honest, but then I have recently spent a fair bit of money to buy a 1984 Suzuki GP100 to remind me of my yoof - so I guess I'm just as bonkers Laughing

To be fair I think they've done quite a good job with it. Looks more like the old C90 than a BMW mini does the original, or a "new" Beetle, or a "new" Fiat 500......

They actually look very well finished. They'd need to be mind because they are pricey. I suspect they would be a reliable commuter.

You'd get a Grom for the same price. Between a super cub and a Grom, I know which I'd have!

What about a lower mileage, used Innova?

Any of the above are absolute thief magnets.

Oh yes!

Old cubs have a high value now due to retro tax and cubs in general make half decent offroad bikes for yoofs. They run on neat petrol, it lasts ages and they're almost indestructible.

I'd forgotten about the Innovas - almost bought one two years ago. I think you'll be more after the Cub styling though?
