|
|
I was looking through the impressive owner manual Yamaha offers for the YS125 (and others) as a PDF download here:
https://www.yamaha-motor.eu/gb/en/services/owner-manual/
It’s 90 pages long and includes detailed engine break-in instructions, service intervals for all major systems, lots of practical maintenance tips (e.g. how to estimate spark plug torque without a torque wrench), etc. The only obvious thing missing was a wiring diagram.
Really useful, and I like that it doesn’t assume the owner to be an idiot.
Anyway, does Honda offer a similar service or are you expected to buy a Honda to learn how often it needs an oil change?
Thanks. |

Short answer: no, Honda don't have anything like that.
The detailed engine break-in instructions are much the same as every other manufacturer says.
Staff at the dealership will be more than happy to tell you about the service intervals if you ask them, from memory it's 2,500 miles for minor servicing.
The easiest way to compare technical details will be to use Google to look up whatever it is you want to know for each bike. Owner manuals are known for being fonts of knowledge. |

The Yamaha owner’s manual tells you what is meant by “being a little careful” and “new” (i.e. for how long you should be careful). That’s useful to me.

I’d like to know that, but also the hundreds of other things the Yamaha owner’s manual covers. Surely a potential buyer needs this information before buying a bike in order to make a sensible choice? I do anyway.
Does Honda think the owner is an idiot and shouldn’t touch the machine’s mechanical parts? That’s the assumption in my car manual (Citroën). That might be right in many cases, but that’s no reason not to freely distribute this info. The idiots won’t read it anyway.

Hard to know whether you’re looking at information for the correct model (year). And the web is full of duff info about technical things. That’s why I like the owner’s manual: it’s authoritative.

Heh.

is a helpful resource for me. Both workshop and owners manuals are available for variety of honda motorcycles. |
But not for the small Hondas sold in Europe now or in the last few years (e.g. CG125 up to about 2008, CBF125, and now the current 125s).

That’s exactly what I’m looking for, but for European models. Still somewhat useful, thanks.

Doesn’t have European models. Starting to think Europeans only care about nice photo galleries and breathless marketing copy about performance and status. |
