Piaggio Zip 50cc 2T Rear Brake Renewal Help Please

Hi,
I need to renew my rear brakes on the above scooter and need some help as to where to get started. I tried the Haynes manual but it’s very vague about my bike and basically just says ‘do the same as for renewing the front brakes’. I just need to know what I should remove before getting started on the brakes and which brake pads I need to buy. Any photos or links would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help whatsoever.
Confused

Why not read what it says about the front brakes and then you might have a clue??

Simple internet searches will show what parts you need. You seem very able to do that and are definitely not internet shy.

Why do you think it needs new brakes?

Pads? Isn't it a drum brake?

So the OP should start by getting the back wheel off & having a look to see what's what. Somewhat obvious perhaps!

Firstly, thanks for the replies.
Yes, I now also think it’s a drum shoe type brake, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Laughing As I think I mentioned in my question, I DID read the run through for replacing the front brakes and it DID give me a clue! However, as this will be my first time attempting this, and thinking that this was a forum where you can ask for help, I thought I might just do that and get the benefit of some kind persons’ experience before I try it and completely balls it up!
Not sure what you mean about me not being internet shy but that doesn’t mean I know ANYTHING at all about changing brakes! Wink
Thanks for taking the time to reply and for your generous help and insight though!

Exhaust off, rear wheel off.

Find shoes unworn after 40,000km. But drum worn through to alloy.

Go from there.

You will probably find it easier to deal with than a disc brake. Look at second-hand parts on eBay or similar to see what to expect if you're very unfamiliar with these things. Your Haynes manual, if it's the right one, should have all the info.
