This is the first time that this has happened to me, but Sony need to get their shit straight.
I completed the story for Horizon: Zero Dawn last night and today I get an email congratulating me and showing off their latest offers.
FUCK RIGHT OFF!

I know you're gathering information about me, but for some reason this has really rubbed me the wrong way. It's just so blatant that I'm quite put off by it.
Am I the only one?

You probably agreed to it in the small print when you signed up for whatever app you buy the game through. As well as agreeing to them knowing where you are and sneaking a peek through any other data that happens to be stored on your device at a whim.

The much lauded idea that was put into force that you had to opt in to advertising has in my view backfired.

Every website, as soon as you open, asks if you accept cookies etc. If you say no, you don't get on the site so what choice do you have?

Or is this a different thing altogether?

It's in the ToS that you agreed to unfortunately.

Set a rule to delete anything from that domain, all good.

I get them weekly from various game services, just redirect them to my scumbox and check it once a week for anything interesting 🤣

That's not that intrusive, the reality is much worse than that. If you care about privacy:
1. Get a VPN
2. Use lots of different accounts with obscure names and random details
3. Block all trackers and cookies
4. Don't use core tracking hubs: Google, facebook, linkedin

The problem is that there is a monopoly in the market of companies that offer take it or leave it contracts which are completely unbalanced.
