Is there anything much better than this at its price point?

Will you be needing it for upside down work? Unsure if it'll help to get stuff welded to 4 thou but you can try.

We switched to solar masks a long time ago at work, they're ok but they can loose power if not used and locked away without a light sauce*.
Having said that, they don't take long to recharge enough to get back to a useable condition.
The battery test button is handy, just make sure it activates the screen while testing the battery.

*I find a cheap salad dressing works well.

As long as it does what it says in the ad then it looks to be a bargain - a bargain though makes me concerned! This is your eyes but as long as it works then it's fine.
Usually, if auto darkening doesn't activate, you won't get 'arc eye' with these masks - just blinded by the flash.

With the batteries as said they quickly recharge if left to go dead. Batteries do wear out eventually. Many masks have internal batteries (little button type) but are tabbed and soldered into a circuit board. Mine failed one day and I got annoyed. I wasn't going to pay extra for tabbed cells and the half day inconvenience of replacing them - instead I bough button cell holders and normal button cells. I soldered the button holders to the circuit board and placed to holders to each side inside the helmet!
Messy bit it works and is a doddle to replace a failed button cell.

What type of welding will you be doing?
Stuff like TIG welding can be quite fine and intricate and use less amps - shade 9 - 13 masks don't fare well with TIG but if your helmet is indeed those lower shades then it's fine for TIG too.
To be fair the helmet seems fine for hobby welding as a whole.

Auto darkening is the way to go. Far far easier to work like that. I also like that added fabric on the part which touches the head. Sure it will get dirty quickly and give you boils but it's added comfort and gives less distractions when welding.

Oh and finally: If you're welding anything with a galvanised coating (zinc plated) be sure to grind it all away from welding locations. It'll burn your lungs away if you breathe in vapourised zinc fumes. It's like getting flu.

I have a few different ones and have yet to find one that doesn't work to my satisfaction, cheap or not cheap.

Some of the cheap ones have quite a small viewing area though. It's not usually a problem but find sometimes it can be.

In that price range I'd probably go for something like this one.

If you haven't used an auto one before, you'll wonder how you ever managed, they are the dogs danglies. Thumbs Up

Ordinary arc welding, with some brazing using carbon rods.

I've got one of these:

As Polarbear says, you'll wonder how you ever managed with a flip down. They really are the business. Thumbs Up
