Bennetts wanted £40 quid more than last year this year. After a fruitless wild goose chase around several branches of B&Q
looking for 6 matching batch boxes of a particular type of tile today I was in a foul enough mood to take on Bennetts as my cover
was due to expire in 3 days. 10 minutes on the phone and a point blank refusal to pay their quoted price saw a whisker under £100
knocked off the bill for the exact same all mods declared comprehensive cover.

This why the biggest scam in the insurance racket is automatic renewal.

Lets face it. its clear enough on the renewal notice that if you do not do anything they will take the quoted amount.
If they can't read or understand a simple statement. Just how many more cars etc would be on the roads uninsured.... Embarassed Rolling Eyes

Can't remember the last policy that did auto renew in the last 8 years.

But on the point of people that don't shop around.
I use Aviva. Renewal quote was less that any of the compare sites. But then again they advertise this fact.

Bennett's post renewals
If you're not at home to open mail they stab you in the Arse.

Its still not correct.

With auto renewal I feel there has to be an actual line of current communication happening in the week or two before the auto renewal happens.
We all know that letters go missing and emails never always arrive. I'm sure there's an actual legal rule with regards proof of letter received? I can't find the relevant court case which put it into the books.

In my mind, there is a way of using this to your advantage.

House insurance, especially contents, is a nightmare. You need to be an expert in locks and alarms. The difference between me knowing everything there is to know, against stating the doors , windows and alarm are "generic/other" is £80 a year.

In the event of a claim, they'll be no weaseling out because I don't know the difference between my multi point and my flange-assisted-double-tricky-grommet locks
.......

I've just been on the Bennet's chat thing and informed them I don't consent to/authorise my policy being auto-renewed. The guy took it off my policy and I got an email confirmation 30 seconds later. Smile

There is.

Read your Policy Terms and Conditions. (You do. Don't you?)

The auto-renew thing is usually obfuscated in there, usually near the back.
