hi all just bought a zzr 600 (yesterday) from a dealer on autotrader could not go and see it but it looks ok in the photos it is a 2003 model with 40000 miles on hopefully they are going to deliver it by next weekend. Have read the posts on here about the brakes and suspension but wondered if there are any other problems, i only bought this as I had to sell my 2007 vn 900c as I have problems with both my shoulders(repetitive strain injury apparently caused by driving wagons for over 30 years according to my doctor.

You are going the wrong way, it`s head down and arse up when young then head up and arse down when older with upper body weakness like me.

They can occasionally develop a problem with the gearbox getting stuck in first, but as long as oil changes are regular there isnt likely to be an issue.

There was an issue where they could jump out of second, redline it in 2nd if it jumps out of gear you have an issue.

4-1 exhaust systems leave flat spots around 4k and 7k.

Other than that as you said, brakes and suspension. If the original shock is on there it would be the first thing I'd replace YSS do a decent one for a decent price.

We had a 2003 ZZR400 few years back - essentially same, but sleeved down

Many like to replace the front calipers for Nissins (off some CBR?), which improve brakes no end.

Only other issues, are sometimes the ram-air system not being properly sealed and potentially causing some top-end performance issues. The ducts are a bitch to get back in the air box. And on ours when we got it the top of airbox was warped so didn't make a good seal. The Seal itself was naff, and the holes for optional California emissions system were just badly taped up. Once all fixed and air tight, it definitely ran better at high speed.

Each to his own, I guess, but none of this makes any sense to me! :o
