In hindsight wouldn't it have been safer to keep harassing the council and send the local paper videos of next doors attempt to start Great Plague II?

So now the hurly burlys done,
Now the battles lost, and won,
clasp your hands, take off your hats,
thank the lord Teffers held no opinions on rats.

I think you're going to end up in one of Dante's circles.
Not sure which one. Probably the same one AA, Valerian, and Arcane are on.
And Val. Thumbs Up

This whole escapade is now officially ruining my life. At the weekend I was in the garden with the wife and I see Doreen, "Hello Doreen" I said. "Tell Darren I'm not talking to him" came the reply as she looked at my wife, very playground.

The noise from the little bastards behind the washing machine is unbearable, scratch scratch squeak squeak squeak. I have taken to sleeping on the couch, which is not comfortable, so I hardly get any sleep. This is now effecting my job.

Yesterday I had to travel up north to a place called Thurnscoe (Rotherham), Stafford to Stockport, Stockport to Sheffield, Sheffield to Thurnscoe. I had some documents to hand over for work, it was a tight schedule as the person had to be back at his office at a certain time. I fell asleep on the train and woke up end of line in Leeds, much fucking about catching trains and we meet up, my boss unhappy (very), his boss livid. I've been given a week off to get my shit together. It's been commented that I look wrecked when I'm at work.

Council useless, Express and Star were not interested in running a rat story, 1 national paper hung up on me when I told them of the infestation story. A friend is selling an air rifle, I've a week off work, I might just buy it for the lolz.

This is all unbelievably silly. If you really have a problem:

Keep on at the council & housing association.

Put down rat traps and poison in your garden.

If you use an air rifle, ensure that no pellets leave your property boundary, or you could easily be in trouble. You need a safe backstop, you should shoot from an elevated position (upstairs window) and I would advise the police that you're doing it, so that if you're reported they don't rush around to yours en masse. Also make very sure that the air rifle you get complies with the law as it applies yo you personally.

I'd be inclined to stick to the first two points and leave it at that. Why worry. If they're not in your garden, they aren't your problem.

Came across this just now, not particularly helpful, but it does outline the options and responsibilities.

https://www.fantasticpestcontrol.co.uk/blog/who-is-responsible-for-pest-control-when-renting/

Must say I'm surprised the local rag isn't interested. Does the paper and/or council have a facebook page you can bombard? If you could (for fairly obvious reasons) edit out the doggie and sound of that video you posted here, and make it widely available it might help.

FFS you're in a hole, stop digging. Rolling Eyes

Shooting rats isn't all that easy, the little bastards rarely stand still long enough for an easy shot, and it has to be a head shot. Unless you can snap-shoot (take aim and fire in a split second) and hit a 2p piece at ten yards then don't bother trying.

That.

You can go to their offices as well as phoning them multiple times each day. Thumbs Up

Adding an air rifle into the mix will very quickly make things worse.

And don't any of the other neighbours care about this? The authorities are more likely to perceive it as an issue which needs dealing with if it's not just one person complaining about it

No the bedroom window overlooks the rat house. The washing machine noise can be heard at night. The wife can sleep through anything, rats/mice nuclear bomb blast.

I feel your pain.

I used to have a 2 bed semi detached house, with one wafer thin wall separating my rooms from the neighbours. They had a tumble drier in their kitchen which went on and off all night, noisy as fcuk.

I'm a bad sleeper at the best of times. In the end I just moved away.

Thank fuck for the metric system, eh?

In old money it would have been 10 yards, but now the little cnuts are effectively a further two foot-ten inches away. Thumbs Up

Rats can probably move much faster than in the past, when they were generally all less than 9 inches in length. Greater limb length, muscle mass, leverage at the joints, etc. A bit like how taller boxers not only have greater reach but are also faster.

The evidence seems to point to rats getting much larger in the UK in recent years, and this is, funnily enough, probably because of poison. Not only can rats adapt to poisons (only the survivors reproduce) but the general survival strategy of having more body mass (so that if you are poisoned, the concentration isn't enough to kill you) is an effective evolutionary survival tactic.

A friend came over Monday and bought his old BSA air rifle. There were a few in the garden we enjoyed shooting. Keeping it on my property though as not to get the police involved as Doreen would have no doubt called them "My next door neighbour is trying to shoot me etc etc".

I bought some ear plugs which have helped and have invested in a foldable bed which is more comfortable than the sofa. So I am sleeping well, I'm thinking of moving, I'll discuss it with the wife and see if we can get a fair price.

There is a suitable job for a rival firm in Kent (Ashford), so I might apply and as the wife is being made redundant end of this month, it might be the push we need to start again in a new area.

Fucking Rats, fucking Doreen.

If that were true, how many billions of rats are in the U.K.?

0.6 by my calculation.
