Yeaaaaah Its not a 'real bike' However My 'real bike' is a GS500e 2000
Which isn't hitting all the right buttons with me.. Probably due to getting messed about when I bought it, Skip next paragraph if you want a shorter story..

1. Major one.. I miss a fuel gauge! and luggage, Its a lot of money to get a rack and box on my GS and I got stung with it when I bought it, to replace my pcx 125 and had to rebuild the whole bike bassiccly. I paid £1100 thinking it was worth the money as it was so clean looking, paperwork said it was clean, mot was clean, until I tryed to ride away and the rear wheel locked up, then I panicked being my first time on a 'real bike' since my test and threw it in a van to find out at home it had rust in the tank, no play in the brake so it was on full of off.. etc etc and it would likely of killed me in the first bend had I ridden it home..

2. Now I'm looking at maxi scooters! because I like the convenience, There is a Yamaha Majesty 400, Its 2200, no haggling as the guy says that's what the dealer will give him for it and they'll mark it up.

Its a 2010
Has 19000 miles roughly
sounds well looked after, not seen it in person yet but looks it too from pictures
recent major service
guy sent me a pic of the recent mot pass certificate
It has some upgrades, heated grips top box etc

Here's my question is it worth £2200 for a 400cc scooter?? specifically this one,

I will likely want to be two up on duals and some motorways, Almost all the roads where I live are 40mph +

I have no idea if it could handle this and if the price sounds about right??
I obviously don't want to get scammed again, it cost me at least £600 to fix up a gs500 (ignoring price of tyres/service stuff) I know al be happy to just get the money I paid for it,

So any ideas? This would be the most I've ever spent on a bike, Thanks

p.s was originally looking for a burgman 400 but none for sale around here at a reasonable price

first off, where do you live? if its anywhere near a city it WILL get stolen.
Second -weight. Maxi scooters are very heavy.
Apart from that it sounds suitable for your needs but 19k sounds like a lot of miles, id want receipts for things like a new drive belt and variator.
Price aint to bad as these big old buses tend to hold there price but id still haggle and see if i could get it down to 2k.

I live quite far from any major citys, nearest one is Edinburgh and as far as I know bike theft is no where near as bad as it is in england, Though off road bikes always get nicked around here, Probably due to them usually not having a reg plate.

And yeah, I've heard that, my gs500 is roughly 200kg wet weight, So Hopefully the Maj won't feel like much, my bike feels like it holds it weight quite high up, I know scoots and more modern bikes usually hold it low so should feel a bit easier to handle,

and al ask the guy if he has any reciept, Its quite away to travel to see, If I remeber right he does claim that the belt etc was does recently

Theres the biggest problem, this Guy won't haggle, He claims a dealership offered him 2200 and its penned in for a trade in, in a few weeks, He has it listed at 2300, but says he'd rather sell it private than to a dealer who will then put a 5 to 6hjndred quid mark up on it,

I just think isn't £2200 probably the max its worth privately?,

So are you suggesting its a bad price? I think the dealership near the seller is in edinburgh, so it explains why they might pay 2200 and sell for close to 3k, Theres one in aberdeen in worse condition, 2012 I think with 15k maybe and there after 3k+

A maxi scooter if it suits you and is right for your needs is one thing especially if its going to be a daily convinence device for fuss free and thrill free commuting.

But go and test ride one before you hand over any money, as IMO these things especially two up will handle nothing like a bike, and it'll be a world different to ride compared to the GS. Also try one two up both on twisting B-roads and in town centre traffic. You'll have to ride it much differently to how you would a bike, and you'll either love it or hate it IMO.

I didn't find a 200kg maxi scooter to be very nimble in traffic or very stable at all?

Oh and finally I don't think your looking for an enjoyable Sunday thrash tool, but if you were then changing to a bike that has less power and is a lot heavier is never a good thing I'd say.

Stevo
Thanks for the reply, and I will test ride it for sure if I go ahead with it, Something came up though, so now I may have to pass on it Neutral Very expensive car issue.

My motorbike has proven itself surprisingly useful the past few days and more reliable, so that's been good news, more so than expected. however a scoot certainly would be very helpful still for the storage space, I've had a scoot before so i know they can feel odd at first, I imagine one that weighs about 200kg will be especially different from the light pcx I had,

Is there a way i can delete this thread or post or do I just leave it here forever?

Thanks for all the replies, they have been helpful Smile
