Okay, So I got my CBT yesterday, but was also pleasantly surprised to find that my license doesn't expire after the expected two years, but lasts for the lifetime of my license. So not only was the CBT a great day, but the bonus put a big grin on my face Smile Didn't even know that was a rule.

It's not a rule, you have been mis-informed. Form dl196 validates your provisional motorcycle entitlement for 2 years.

I believe it's true for mopeds, if you already have a full car licence, or pass your car test within 2 years of the CBT.

If you passed your car test yonks ago (pre 2001?) you don't need a CBT at all for a moped.

Ah crap... well, I'll assume the worst and disregard the extension...and plan my tests within the two years. TBH I never thought I'd ever need it anyway. I will also try and get to the bottom of this as I was informed by the course instructor.

Save your effort - he was wrong. Unless you, or the person he was addressing, were on a 50.

Ditch him and get an instructor who understands the licence laws.

Yeah, prolly won't, I've got a million other things I'd prefer/want/need to do.

Maybe.. Passed my car test 1980 she said it was under grandfather rights, which is why I was happy to buy it....not too fussed really, the L plates will annoy me enough to get my finger out out and get a full license.

Just about time to squeeze in a DAS!

I've just got my first CBT a couple of weeks ago, I'm not going to do it again if I can help it, even though I don't have the cash/room/time/need/permission to get a decent sized bike anyway.

UPDATE:

Well I'm just about to become a real biker, well I use that term loosely. But if the definition of a biker were to be: that I use two wheels on the shitty roads amongst all the four wheeled+ nutters. then I guess I'll be a biker...
Last weekend I drove up to Yorkshire to collect a VT125 Shadow... (I wanted a red one Laughing ) Wrote a list of things to check before using it..hopefully just got the oil /filter change to do, and affix an L plate to the front. and we're off... Dance!
