After 12+ years of being on a bike, for the most of that time it was my only mode of transport its inevitable that a few bad habits have been picked up.

A few have come to light after switching bikes from the little MSX125 to the RSV1000R.

The one that's baffling me is the way I hump and straddle the tank.

How do you get used to having a distance from the tank and nads?

It feels so odd and unnatural and as if I'm superman outstretched in the upper body? I can certainly feel the difference in the corners when I'm against the tank compared to further back in the saddle.

Maybe I should stick a tennis ball on the tank to stop me mounting it and forcing me to sit further back???

Teaching an old dog new tricks and all that, any suggestions?

Ride faster. The wind will push you back in the seat.

Open the throttle all the way. Sitting too close to the tank will cease to be an issue.

I always sit against the tank, find I slide forward under braking otherwise. Is it a bad habit?

Depends, you're either gripping with your thighs and stopping knacker squish, or you're bracing with straight arms, which is baaad mmmmkay.

Better to shove it down your Y-fronts instead before going for ride; would look less silly

I got over the straight arms thing pretty quickly and ride with bent elbows, and I brace with my knees under braking and cornering but over a journey tend to slide forward so end up just staying there

Sometimes, if I am going at it full tilt, shoulders hunched and the full vroom-vroom nine yards, I can feel my nipples brush the tank.

But I think its just that I'm getting old and my tits are starting to sag.

I dunno ... what do you reckon.

Maybe time to fix the zip on your jacket?

I tend to sit right against the tank pretty much all of the time, I find I have better control and posture like that.

The exception for me being the rare times I do a few motorway miles, where I don't need to move the bars or my bum on the seat much, and pretty much never touch the brakes.
