Unless you have either fucked up or never had credit/bank account you have no need to.

As iooi says, it not set in stone, it just gives you an idea of what the potential lender will see.

My eldest daughter who got herself in a pile of financial poo after bank of Dad said enough was enough and I couldn't keep bailing her out, went and had a face to face with her bank she had been with for years and they went out of their way to help her sort everything out.

That was Nationwide but I'm sure they all have debt advisors.

The scores that these companies spout are not even on a lenders radar. Each has their own risk/lending criteria at any given time. Depending on how they need to boost sales/profits.
Online, most will be approved by computer. Only if they want further info or to check. Will you get to speak to anyone.

Every bank has a credit team, that will do all they can to help. Last thing they want to do is write off a debt. They would rather lose a bit on interest or charges and get the customer back on track, then lose a large amount of money.

I checked my credit rating and it was the highest possible. Pointless though as I have no intention if borrowing amy money.

Get a 2nd account with another bank. Sort out a transfer of funds from your bank to that bank. Let it sit in the other bank for a week. Transfer it back to your account. You can automate this.

Get a credit card - spend the bare minimum each month to keep it active. Pay it off. On time. Every time.

Do the above for a year ( whilst paying off your other stuff ON TIME) and things should improve.
