I am hopefully looking to get a GSXR 1000 k5/k6 for the summer (will keep the 750 for cold/wet).

My previous bike was from a friend so I am new to looking for bikes online then buying from strangers.

I have started keeping an eye open to get an idea of prices v. condition.

When viewing these, is there anything in particular to look for?

Known problems?

What would be considered high mileage?

What sort of money would I be looking to pay privately for a good one?

The prices seems to vary a far bit. I am new to this so am finding it hard to judge whether a bike is priced higher because seller is expecting too much or if it's just a good example.

Likewise the cheaper end of the range, bargain or not? (I have seen people using "mint" in the description only to go on to document scratches or damage that was done during a "low speed spill" by the "previous owner".

I guess the only way of knowing is to go see a few.

How much would you budget for the bike?

Any information regarding these would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Chris

Thumbs Up

Hi I have a K6 Gixa 1000,

Check if the work was done on the recall on the headstock
plus the rectifer is renown for going as mine needs replacing other than that no problems at all.
I have put 26k on my bike and goes like the wind, I love the bike wouldn't part with it.

The major issue with them is the headstock. Check it's had the recall work done.

Check it's not an ex racer.

IIRC the engine's pretty strong. A couple of bikes around with 100k plus miles on them.

Just check it's not been owned by a nutter as they can look tatty quickly if not cared for.

G has a K6, was a fantastic bike to ride.

Felt heavier to turn than the 750 I'm on now...but aside from that it was great.

Its definitely a go fast without realising machine... I saw some odd speeds on there, felt so stable it was like I was doing 70 Laughing

I think that's mostly the steering damper setup - though of course that's a by-product requirement of having a reasonably frisky bike that makes loads of power.

Yep, thats it.

At the time, they Daytona didn't have one set up as hard as that...definitely took getting used to but I reckon if its stock settings it may be a little better Thumbs Up

I'm waiting for the more retarded/jealous/scaredycat members of the forum to come up with the "600" is all you need gibberish.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I prefer the 1000 to a 600, happy amounts of low down power in high gears.

But...

600s all you need.

TBH, 250 is all you really need, but its all about having a range. Same with cars, 1.0l is all you need for going to and from work...you don't need a 3 litre diesel 4x4 Laughing

Courier on a GSXR1000! Bet he gets more job satisfaction than most!

Edited to say I’ve just seen the seven year gap in the thread. Wow!
