Wanted: a decent pea-shooter and nice aerodynamic dried peas, the smooth sort not the wrinkly ones. Where to buy each?

Tesco still sell dried peas, so I guess the other main supermarkets will also do so.
I noticed dried chickpeas, so if you really want to make someone go ouch they have a pointy-ish bit Razz would need a bigger bore tube though.

There are some sort of 'blow tubes' on Amazon, come with small balls. More exciting news, I spotted a spud gun!!

Ahbutare the Tesco ones marrowfat (wrinkly) or smooth (aerodynamic)?

I suppose Icould make a pea shooter, I've got some tube somewhere, or use bamboo, but I'll look on Amazon.

Don't want to shoot at people, but bldy jackdaws, etc. I daren't really shoot them here, I am very sure there would be complaints.

Spud guns! Smile Smile Smile But are the caps available any good? I bought some a few years ago and they were rather feeble.

But are wrinklly ones less aerodynamic? Are golf balls smooth?

Maybe time for an experiment.

Also, mung beans.

Cap guns use caps. Spud guns use spuds. Maybe you are too young to remember those Razz

No idea about which pea is which. I just looked on their website to check they still sell stuff.
Could have given you the usual link

the dry frozen peas used to come with a little soda tablet in, that was exactly the same size as an extra strong mint, and I used to slip one into a packet of mints before handing them round when I was a kid Laughing

Spud guns used to have a little zinc alloy "cartridge" which you got out, then digging the sharp triangular end into your potato, after which a single paper cap was torn off the roll, presses into the other end of the cartridge, which was put back in the spud gun. Cock the hammer, pull the trigger, bang and the gas from the exploding cap sent the fragment of potato on its way.

The bit of spud was fired out by air pressure. They could also fire caps, either by themself or at the same time, the cap wasn't the propellant.

I bought a cheap fake gun in France when I was a kid, revolver that took blanks, discharged down the barrel. Had an attachment that could take flares. Didn't have any flares, but rammed AA batteries in there and fired them down the garden.

Oh yes it was. If the hole got bunged up, your spud would not go. If you did not put a cap in, your spud would not go.

Edit: perhaps you are thinking of a different spud gun.

I had one as a kid. I remember trying to break a milk bottle by shooting it - at point blank range the pellet just bounced off. I broke it in the end by putting the cocked gun about an inch away and letting the barrel do the job. Laughing

Great(ish) with darts though.

Corks eh?
Ah yes, jerseys for goal posts and all that.

I had a double barrel shot gun that fired corks but the
cool thing was they had string through the corks tied to the trigger guard
so after you shot a baddie, you could run off to kill more without losing your ammo.

Them injuns never stood chance

What you want is a short airsoft barrel (brass, 6mm ID) and some airsoft 6mm BBs. Tried and tested, the most perfect 'pea' shooter to be had. Very Happy

Jackdaws (& Seagulls and magpies/jays etc) are tough little things.
A mate is handy with his old air rifle and has a dislike of the those types of birds but the pellets regularly bounce off their chests, they fly off but they're back again a few minutes later. He does get a few but much less than you'd expect for the number of hits.
A modern air rifle is about the only non-shotgun/hunting rifle thing that really stops them. Anything else will have them laughing at you... Surprised
You'll only get complaints about shooting them if someone sees you doing it... Cool

You'll only shoot one or two jackdaws. They are too clever to be shot. They will see you getting the gun/peashooter out through the window and fuck-off. But will hang about squaking at you when you're unarmed.

I've got one; well, a fairly modern one anyway, only about 30 years old (it's an HW77), and it's only had a tin or thereabouts of pellets down it. I've got neighbours, so I even don't want to use that, let alone anything else.

Sell the Weihrauch, you'd get a decent price.
At 30 years old with only one tin of pellets through it its probably never been re-lubed and there's a chance the piston seal has deteriorated.
There aren't many springers out there I'd consider quiet enough for backyard plinking anyway.
Get yourself a nice Air Arms S410, all you hear is a pfft.
