Hi All. I had may Thunderace stolen. It was recovered, but now when I turn the ignition on in neutral, the rev counter goes up to 7k and drops. I try and start it and the oil and fuel light flash up and nothing happens.

It will only start if I put it in gear and hold the clutch in.

Could this be the Exup valve playing up (it was thrashed to hell when stolen - has bold back tyre)?

That is bad news, does the neutral light work and did the rev counter do the 7k and drop back bit BEFORE ? (reminds me of the carbed fazer 1000 i had).

The 7,000 rpm rev counter error code does indicate an EXUP motor problem. I suspect the starting issue is unrelated and may be down to one of the switches (neutral, side stand etc). The oil and fuel lights flashing is normal when you press the starter button - it’s a bulb check system.

Thanks, Both

No, the 7000 revs is new. I've checked the clutch and side stand switch. Also tried replacing the CDU. The neutral light goes out when put into gear so I'm assuming that's ok.

A lot of other damage was done to the bike too. I've replaced the ignition as it was hot wired. Can't think of any other sensors on the bike.

There is a fair bit of damage to what was a close to perfect condition Thunderace. All for a couple of hours of fun. If only I could get my hands on the theives...

Might have to leave it with the insurers to write it off :/
