PostPosted: 10:36 - 06 Aug 2019    Post subject: Vodafone problem Reply with quote

My nephew recently had his birthday, his mother (my sister) was widowed last year and has 2 jobs on the go to keep the family going. Jack wanted a new phone, as my sister couldn't afford the one he wanted (he's just turned 14) and is choosy as hell. I got him one on contract, Huawei P Smart 2019 model. Unlimited calls and texts and 5GB data. £21 a month. He's my nephew, it's a small amount of money, everyone's happy.

However.

I asked to block premium contact as Jack is 14, added a £10 call limit, incase he needed to call the odd 0845 number, the biggest the bill could have been was £31 a month. No sweat, he helps around the house, good kid, no problem. Vodafone send me a text/email saying they have shut off Premium number calling as they can't legally bill me any more?

So I panic. Thinking WTF? log on and he's ran up the best part of £1600 in 3 weeks calling naughty numbers.

I can afford to pay the bill, that's not the point. Jack isn't old enough to call those numbers legally, to talk about filthy stuff you need to be 18. Surely the woman talking to him is going to realise he is not 18? also I asked Vodafone to block these numbers and premium services and have a £10 buffer. Where do I stand legally? can I fight this? Jack realises there is a difference between unlimited calling and premium rate now.

Anyone any suggestions?

Do you have evidence of this?

Nothing written. I can only assume that because my credit score is really good, they have given me a limit to reflect that. It was a verbal conversation with the salesman in the Vodafone shop.

Was there any confirmation or notes, you could ask them to check on the account? You could also argue you set the £10 limit in conjunction with the block if you have any confirmation of that.

Doesn't help you now but I always voice record any interactions I have with providers when doing anything account related, letting them know that I am, mostly because I'm paranoid, but also to prevent shit like this.

I would have thought that the contract would have stated the blocks and also the credit limit 02 does.
Where they aware of the age of the user? Or did you just take it out so that they took it it was a phone for you?

Who has access to the vodafone online acc? If it is the lad, has he deleted the spend cap.

I think you would be better speaking to Vodafone about this, rather than in store. As I think all he will do is pass you onto them.

Given the £10 limit I would argue the point on the cost and if they do not waive the bill. Raise a complaint.

Quote:

How to complain directly. Vodafone's customer service team is on 03333 041 524. You can also complain using the online complaints form here or by writing to Customer Relations Manager, Vodafone Limited, The Connection, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 2FN. Vodafone says it will aim to respond within five days

If not resolved you can go to ADR after 8 weeks.

Pay the bill, take Jack to the docks and have him earn the £1600 back.

Who did you ask for the spending cap? The guys in the shop or Vodafone customer services? If it's the former you'll need to see if anything was written down on the original sales order (you do have all the paperwork?) For the latter you'd have to give them the date you made the request "all calls are logged for training" etc.

Vodafone warn you when you call or text a premium rate number via a pop up.

Good point. I rang one of the numbers and there is a warning with 1. You must be over 18 and have the bill payers permission and 2. Calls cost 35p per minute plus company access charge.

I just suppose it was exciting to him to wank off to a phone tart and she'd talk dirty to him. He does not have a girl friend at the moment. I've told his mom, she has confiscated his Xbox and Ps4 and grounded him.

I'll just have to pay it and shrug it off.

Guy in the shop. Nothing in contract stating call cap.

Nothing on paper? Bad luck then Sad

My wife's phone went wrong within the warranty period. Took it into a shop and they sent it for repair.

Some time later: "Yes, that'll be £240 to repair please" WTF?! "Yeah, it has a crack on the back so it's been dropped at some point."

Checked the paperwork and there was nothing in the physical description the shop assistant had written down so I rolled it up and used their own paperwork as a makeshift club.

Vodafone decided to repair it for free "on this occasion..."

Should have confiscated the wanking phone too.

Oh rats.

Go back to the store you bought it from to discuss the conversation you had with them when you bought the phone from [insert name of sales person here] on [whatever date it was] about premium rate calls being blocked.

Been back in the shop this afternoon, only to be told Hasan is on holiday for a week, back next Monday. Vodafone support is fucking grim. The only way I got to talk to someone who was actually born in this country was to select the 'Wanting to leave Vodafone' option. Next minute I'm talking to Julie from Yorkshire. She had a look at the calls and said "That's a lot of premium rate numbers' (trying to stifle a giggle) that she never quite managed to do.

Basically I've got to pony up the dosh. I'll have another trip back to the shop when Hasan comes back off of holiday.

I refuse to believe any of this. Laughing

Also, stop feeding your kids the 'nice card.'
Cunts got a PS4 and Xbox and you bend over to give him a phone.

Of course... this could all be BS. No one other than Divvy has this much drama llama.

If its true, kids got fucking weak parents and will probably have his future home bought by you. Grow some balls Thumbs Up

No it's all legit Paddy. To be fair he had an Xbox 360 and I bought him a PS4 when his dad died (cancer) last year.

He's my nephew, my sister is his mum. The daughter is the spoilt one, she has a pony.

As above, its time to add to the list... no one has this much drama and spends cash on pony but not a phone. Cancer card is a bit strong too.

It's hard to believe people use chat lines anymore, with so much free porn content available online, you can virtually type anything into a search engine, and something porn related will show up, unless you have very strict filters in use, but even then some will get through Laughing
