So, I'm off to see a XBR 500 (33kW) tomorrow. Any particular thing to look for? It's got the RFVC head engine, which I have seen before, but no particular experience with these otherwise.

No need to mention the basics.

Thank you for any info, lads. Thumbs Up

Rust in the frame down behind the engine, between the footpegs. Proper rotted-out sort of rust.

cylinder heads also suffered from cracking between spark plug and valve stems like the CB250rs/xl250 did.

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.

I did check the frame, spotless, couldn't quite check the head, but the engine ran very well, with no oil leaks.

The bike is not flawless, but nothing that I wouldn't be able to fix. The carburetor drain plug leaks, not excesivelly, the charging system does not work, or at least not as well as it should, and I'm gonna have to replace the fork seals.

Other than that, it's a nice clean bike. The previous owner even replaced the fuel tank. I looked inside, with a flashlight and I'll tell you one thing, I have never seen a tank this clean before, and definitely not on a 1987 made motorcycle. The bike is also equiped with the Clubman DID wheels (nice and rare), the gauges work and look good, exhaust are not rusty at all... and so on.

TL; DR: Minor issues, otherwise nice and clean. Oh and the engine is amazing, I haven't had so much fun going ''this slow'' in ages.

I'm gonna share some pictures once I find a bit of time to do so in daylight.

The valves are locknut type you can easily do them but need regular checks.
