On trackers your options are: horrendously expensive (~£300 install cost + service subscription) or pathetically cheap (chinese crap with PAYG SIM) and very little in between

I'm presuming your bike was on the road outside your house?
TBH I wouldn't get a decent bike unless you have somewhere secure to keep it.
Get an old Bandit that looks sh1t, it doesn't have to be sh1t, just look it.
Actually I wouldn't even do that, someone will still nick it. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

If it's outside, it's always going to be a target unfortunately. Assuming it's something that can't be hotwired easily, I'd imagine the best thing is to try and predict the mind of the thief: I expect they're most interested in bikes that can be stripped/sold quickly, moved easily and ideally have a high value . . . so something a bit oddball is less likely to be in demand for a quick sale (maybe?!), something heavy will be harder to move with a scooter (especially if you're inventive with how you park it, e.g. create a little dip for it to sit in if it's in your garden - without the engine running it'd be hard to get it out of the dip, even with a scooter?) . . . unfortunately sports bikes like the one you had stolen are in demand, light to move and fetch reasonable money.
Get an old RT?
Seriously though, it's crap it has happened and I dread it happening to me . . . if it's parked on the road, I think there's probably little you can do with any bike as angle grinders will get through any security measure sadly - if they want it, they'll take it. ____________________ TG. |

With bikes it's not IF it gets stolen, but WHEN. I've been riding for over 35 years and had two offs with neither being insurance claims, but I have had six bikes stolen. All have been secured, all have been garaged, all, but one, have been recovered, mainly due to the security measures taken. The insurance companies just write them off. All had their steering locks broken.
Bike makers aren't going to do jack shit about security. They put things like HISS on bikes, but that's no good if the scrotes have done the steering lock in, moved the bike and ripped the fairing off trying to start the bike.
Make it too hard to do the steering lock first of all, but they won't do that as the more bikes that are stolen the more that are sold. ____________________ Famous last words of Humpty Dumpty. " Stop pushing me "

Unhelpful response:
Move out of London. Get a garage.
Helpful response:
Something about Sadiq Khan, police numbers, Boris Johnson... Meh I would put in the effort but I'm tired of it all. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

What was the value of the CBR? I mean, it might not even be worth making a claim if the extra insurance cost tips four figures or more..
I d on't think own anything worth more than a grand but then my stuff is for weekend tinkering mainly - they rarely get ridden ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

If you're making a claim from someone else's insurance then that's different to if you're making a claim from your own insurance. You can add stuff like increased insurance costs when you're claiming from someone else but not when you're claiming from your own policy.
If their computer says your vehicle is worth more than you think it is then it's not your place to question the knowledge of their computer.
No one will have been sacked, the amount of money involved in for replacing a vehicle is very small compared to the big personal injury claims they deal with.
Nothing to do with insurance has to make sense when it goes in your favour. |
