hi all

i'm looking for some lightweight gear to wear year round, well mostly year round unless it gets incredibly hot.

even in the dark depths of winter at 0C outside I still find if I wear standard textile trousers like alpinestars andes I get incredibly hot and sweaty, I think this is due to the mesh lining stuff in textiles or the fact it is waterproof so not very breathable.

basically i'm looking for trousers similar to textile trousers but without that mesh crap inside and are breathable, a bit like kevlar jeans but a bit more hard wearing than that (currently i am wearing some old forcerider kevlar jeans year round).

i dont need anything too spectacular as im a london commuter so 20-30-40mph roads, mostly 20-30mph

Do you wear a wicking base layer?

It sounds like the title is misleading and what you're actually bothered about is that "boil in the bag" issue, so I'll suggest vented/perforated leathers such as Wolf Nimbus. If it rains heavily I'll add PVC overtrousers.

How very dare you!
Fair enough though, I re-wrote the OP's requirement so you re-wrote my response.

If you're sweating at 0C then its not really the gear that's the issue.

Rukka stuff is probably the best for direct air vents, and from what I can tell most other brands just vent to the membrane inside.

As above, what do you wear underneath? Might be time to get yourself a kriega / topbox and chuck some clothes in their to keep them dry and yourself cool.

nope don't wear a wicking base layer, I tried to wear one before but found I just slide forward in the textile trousers if I do that, I'm not a fat ass honest Rolling Eyes I just get very hot.

Generally I am OK in kevlar jeans year round in London as even when it is cold it isn't too bad as usually doing 20-30mph, just wondering of something a bit similar which would be harder wearing as I usually wear kevlar jeans both on the bike but in the office but looking for something a bit more durable which I can change out of, I'm sure the textile material would be fine if it didn't have the waterproof liner and weird mesh bit inside

Have you tried any vented trousers? Dainese do an Air Textile range and one of my friends recommends them for keeping your particulars un clammy.

Have you considered leather.

Been the motorcycle clothing material of choice for a very long time. Comes in all manner of thicknesses with or without armour, mesh panels, waterproof membranes. It's inherantly breathable but very windproof.

Still the benchmark material for crash protection.

I have a pair of Buffalo Air ware trousers. They have the knee and hip armour but the front and back are like mesh. It's like wearing shorts when walking, on the bike its proper cool.

I considered leather but was worried it would be even worse, eg. if i sit on a leather sofa or on leather seats in a car I just start sweating.

I guess the vented style textiles could be an option as long as they don't have any sort of waterproof membrane - although doubt they would as that kind of defeats the purpose? I will get down helmet city or J&S and have a look, the RST and dainese ones look OK
