My wheel steering lock doesn't work. It could be some of the moving parts inside lock isn't in its position, or some dirt, or who knows what. It is an old bike.

Question is, how to remove lock from the bike clean it, or fix it somehow, and put it back? I read somewhere that once it is out, it can not be put back and work.

Anyone mess with it?

I don't know, but by the look of this: https://yambits.co.uk/xv535-virago-steering-lock-barrel-keys-p-16654.html it should be reasonably easy to get out/replace. I'd be inclined to have a very careful look around the lock and see what can be seen that looks interesting.

iirc its a lock uner the bottom yoke and is held on with 2 rivets. Grind the rivets out and replace the lock.
