Now, this fella I have lately been chatting up: he thinks I might like to go fishing with him (not really) ... so I have muttered vague acquiescence about maybe going along to see how I like it.

But for now I am taking an ambivalent stance on the subject, I might go occasionally - if I can take a book.

But whether he lasts in the grand scheme of things, or whether he doesn't, I just can't see the attraction of fishing.

I was brought up beside the sea: my stepfather used to like going fishing, and I had no interest in it back then, beyond eating freshly fried fish dredged in flour and fried in butter ... so I am fairly sure I won't have developed an interest now.

And shagging on rocky shores, sandy beaches and wobbly boats is simply beyond the pale with me now. I need to be comfortable to perform in anything even slightly resembling spectacular fashion nowadays.

Besides, I thought guys went fishing to escape from their womenfolk.
(or at least have an excuse to leave the house Laughing )

Always my view too. I suggest it's early days relationship eagerness on his part. I would go a couple of times (with a book and some cans of tipple) and wait for the relationship to get into a normal stride...

Yeahhhh, that's kind of what I figured too.
Although its sputtering to get off the ground at the moment anyway Laughing

But if it did ... then I'd probably ease him gently out of the idea of me going fishing regularly.

Paint drying, now that sounds far more interesting.

I'm quite a lot more domesticated in general, and indeed positively neolithic in such respects:

Ug. Man go catch fish.
Man bring back and fillet fish.
Woman cook fish.
Man eat fish first, woman eat fish later.
(in case of scombroid fish poisoning) Laughing

Try and stay positive: it's not a fishing trip it's a romantic picnic on a river bank with incidental rod-action (if you're lucky!)

Wey-hey.
Dance! Dance!

(my head is easily turned by romantic notions).

So I shall put myself to work concentrating on womanly duties, such as packing a fulfilling picnic hamper.

Rug, tick! Champagne, tick! Cucumber sandwiches, tick! Victoria Sponge Cake, tick! ... oh, er .... Cider, tick! Peanut butter sandwiches, tick! Laughing

I might start tying on a hi-viz piece of ribbon in case they get left behind. If you see a set, just drop me a line and I'll go and discreetly collect them. Cool Thumbs Up

Funny you should say that. My route for walking the dogs is round a well stocked and well used carp lake.
Mostly fished by men, but there are the odd female or Mrs & kids sat with them at times as they are often there all weekend. @ £20 a night...

But tonight there was a youngish lad with his girlfriend (i guess) and she was reading a book.... Laughing

Was tempted to ask are you Hellkat, but chickened out Embarassed

I used to fish a lot and for me much of the pleasure was being on my own with my thoughts and my rod in hand. Catching fish was incidental.

I can imagine this fella taking you with good intentions but only the once - you start nattering and he won't ask you again. Result for you. You can always offer to tickle his trout later....

Laughing Laughing Prolly just as well, as we haven't moved that far forward yet Laughing Laughing

Its entirely possible that matters will stagnate of their own accord, anyway. My past romantic history is lurking below the surface to drag me under at a moment's notice Rolling Eyes

Plus ... "youngish" lads, although not as thin on the ground under my feet as you might expect, are a bit too energetic for me, these days.

Still, the advantages of being an apex predator is that you can brush away annoying irritants with a swipe of your tail once you are tired of them.
Cool

Yes I think the overly talkative route is my best bet to wriggle out of it, actually.

I have to admit, I do quite enjoy the silence, birdsong, own thoughts and the sound of the tide/running water thing. I do a lot of that when I am back in New Zealand.

But you are right: best achieved when alone.

Sea fishing - An active experience. You will be tired by the end of it probably and will likely get a good amount of fish for later eats.

Fresh water fishing - Sit around drinking all day doing not much.

For me it's sitting on my boat on a hot day with a cold beer watching the world go by through half closed eyelids and then escaping to the land of nod for a few minutes before a fish rudely awakes you by trying to steal the maggot you impaled on a hook.

I suppose a blowjob could increase the enjoyment factor though. Thinking

No, too energetic.

it's a bit like bingo to me, no attraction for me whatsoever, perhaps when I'm older and infirm and am unable to do anything else, I may consider veging on a riverbank, or, have a go at bingo, but, hopefully, that time is a looooong way off !!

I wish I knew how to angle for river fish. There are lots of skills I don't have but which I would like to have. Don't know how to camp, or how to play an instrument either. Will eventually pick up some of these skills though. Fishing is very cool, because you get fresh fish to eat. I'm big on cooking, and outdoor grilling/barbecues, seasoning, etc.

One of my best mates was proper into fishing. I think he still is but he accidentally got himself four whippets so now has to catch rabbits instead, which he seems to enjoy even more than fishing.

I used to go with him quite a lot. The joy in it was just to chill out and drink beer by a river, and more often than not we'd camp out, make a little fire and it would end up being more about the beer than the fish.

I bought a rod once, and I think maybe caught one fish in my whole life. I don't enjoy fishing at all, but it's nice to be there with a beer or several.

Oh and it sounds like the worst date scenario imaginable.

I used to fish but the attraction was money - I worked on a North Sea trawler.
Fresh water stuff? I think you'll get bored quickly. Especially if it's raining and cold.
