So I've just acquired a 2nd-hand Akra for my bike Wink, but I see from the instructions that the little carbon-fibre heatshield is supposed to fitted using heat-resistant washers, presumably to prevent it from melting?

These are missing... am not entirely sure what they look like or where I'd get some more from. Are they readily obtainable, or can I use something else comparable?

Any metal washer should do it assuming it isn't an ancient bike you will still be able to by parts from an Akra Supplier. I bought a replacement decal for mine once.

Heat resistant washers are usually made from nylon or fibre. They insulate components from heat whereas metal washers conduct heat. These could be what you are looking for.

What, they're just ornery metal washers? How are they heat-resistant? I was assuming something based on some sort of fibrous material?

Silicon washers would be very poor conductors of heat. Lots on ebay.

So you have heat resistant washers. What is the screw that goes through them made of?

A shape that has a very small area of contact.

Or, in theory - given that the ID of the hole in the heatshield is quite a lot greater than the OD of the retaining metal bolt passing through it (it has a wide head) - no contact at all

Some fixings on exhausts used to have copper washers and copper nuts. May be away to go, something to do with heat dissipation

I would say brass nut as they tend not to seize .
