I'm sure I'm not the first, but today for the first time ever I noticed I could select English Language as a Display Language.

It's a fresh install on 1903.

For years color, center and Neighborhood have bothered me.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

You mean a keyboard location in Language settings?
Do you get an @ symbol or a " if you press the 2 key and shift?

You can normally add English (UK), set as default and remove English (US).

Try pressing the Windows key + Space bar or look for "ENG" to the left of the clock.

A lot of words for applets in Windows are in American format. You can't change these.

No Windows Language as the Display language.

(Control Panel/Region/Administrative/Copy Settings).

System Local/Keyboard etc you have always been able to set to English UK. But not the display language.

If you started with basic Win10 CD or ISO image it'd probably just be US English for everything: region, display, keyboard etc.

Once installed you can do a bit of digging in the settings to download a localised, UK English Language Pack.

What might have happened is Windows has twigged from another computer you've logged into that you'd really prefer UK English and updated your PC to reflect this.

Microsoft are creepy helpful like that.

My fresh install asked me what language I wanted, I chose English UK, I now have network and sharing centre rather than center. Yay.

Yes, settings, then language then Windows display language, now gives a drop down box, where I can switch from United States to the United Kingdom.

Windows display language and regional settings has caused me years if not decades of problems.

We have sites across Europe, but we only support English & German windows builds. Previously using Professional versions of windows we weren't able to use language packs. These features only being available in Enterprise.

Previously we had to use MUI for the office packs so at least spell check was in the local language.

Now our standard builds are done in Germany from their deployment server and this has the added problem the system local and regional settings are german.

It's not just the keyboard which is an easy change, it's the symbols used for negative, thousands, decimal points etc.

A ; in Germany is our , comma

Germans use a , comma as a decimal point so 1,56 is 1.56, it causes lots of problems if you don't log on as a local administrator, change all settings to UK, then copy these settings for future users. (We have multiple users per machine).

Somethings are getting easier, but I still prefer the AS400.
