The problems with my YBR started earlier this year. Sometimes my bike would start normally, other times it would try to but would not catch. Changed spark plug but problem kept happening, so garage recommended changing the coil pack so paid them to do it.

Seemed ok at first after this but soon enough started happening again. Had to go in for new sprockets and chain and asked them to check it out but they were unable to reproduce the fault.

Got it back and immediately started experiencing a new issue, as the bike's engine would simply stop running whilst going at speed. This could be rectified by pulling in the clutch and pressing the starter switch but free wheeling at 60 odd miles an hour praying your bike will start up ain't particularly fun. Engine management light was now giving a code though (I forget which one) which the Haynes manual said could be the throttle cable or the ecu.

Replaced the ecu and engine management light was gone but then the starter switch stopped working. Replaced the starter relay and and all seemed fine until went to MOT it and then it cut out 5 times on the way there and back (passed its MOT though! Haha). No longer an engine management light flashing, but sometimes it would start up and then die after a few minutes while other times it wouldn't start at all.

Noticed the fuel pump didn't sound quite right as if it was dying towards the end of the whirring sound and then the pump stopped starting up at all, Tested the battery and also checked the rectifier. decided to replace the battery as was dropping below 12.4 quickly as soon as the back was switched on. Fuel pump sounds fine now but went out on a run to test it and it died on me twice.

Any ideas on where to go from here as I'm stumped? Any advice appreciated.

Its a 2008 Yamaha ybr custom 125

I've seen before that the ECU/Throttle Cable faults have actually been issues with the ingition switch, and people have replaced it to cure this problem

Not saying it is, but maybe worth a go?

Thanks for the reply. I've today tested the ignition switch for continuity and voltage and all seems fine there. Would an issue with the ignition switch not prevent it from even starting up?

I've had a run out on it again today and can confirm this issue now only crops up when the throttle is released after I've maintained speed for a while.
