I’m going to have a go at not drinking alcohol in October. I’ve had a wager with Mrs. 1198 and we’re both trying it.
It’s nothing more than think I’m drinking too much and could survive a month without. Time will tell!
Anybody doing it - and why?

Ah, the secular equivalent of giving up for Lent.

After reading you post I did consider it... for about 50ms Wink

But seriously, I'm fed up with the give this up, give that up nagging that goes on.

Give up booze/meat/plastic/shopping/salt/fat/carbs/sex/cars/bikes Rolling Eyes

Surely it's better, and less likely to be doomed to failure, to reduce your intake, not deprive yourself altogether. If you enjoy something but think youre enjoying it too much, just cut down. You're still going to feel some benefit but will be less likely to expedience failure, which you will, when you reach for a drink on October 2nd.

Then you'll feel cheap and dirty and beaten. Wub Wub

Aim for one alcohol free day a week to start with and see how you go on.

As for me, I'm of for a large G&T and will be doing so, every evening for the forseeable future. Wasted Wasted Wasted Rolling Eyes

I'm going out on Friday night to get 'Hospitalised'.

Giving up the booze?

Are you on drugs or something?

Nope.
I've two partys this weekend and another next weekend. I don't drink a lot anyway but I'll be damned if some challenge will stop me.
Like others I'm sick of these challenges which all seem to stem from government or charitable sources.
Life is short and we should live it to the full. If it means alcohol then so be it.

A friend nearly has her second batch of rhubarb gin ready for me, I'm drinking it like squash. Dance!

It's bollox. It's made out to be this massive hardship where you don't drink for a period of time but it really shouldn't be. That's the drinking culture here in the UK summed up really. Getting sponsored for giving up alcohol? What a load of old cobblers

I went to Uni with a guy who couldn't go a day without drinking, and he claimed he wasn't an alcoholic. Going a whole month is a different thing obviously, not an indication of alcoholism but people bleating about how difficult it is to give up for a very short period of time? That's a concern.

Nope, not me, I like a drink, however, it's not a need, and it's not a hardship not to drink alcohol. If, you're alcohol consumption is such that people see it as such a challenge for you to stop for just a month that they will sponsor you, you have a problem, that being 1 month on the wagon really won't solve.

(oh, and before it starts, please no more of this movember shite either)

I did this before it was cool, for the last 8ish years I have had the first 3 months of the year off booze.

When people starting asking me to sponsor them for a month off it was a greate xcuse not too.

PSA - if you don't drink for 3 months don't go out and have 8 pints on April 1st. If you are anything like me there will be shit and puke everywhere and you will be ill for days Laughing

Nope, a heady mix of Weed and a variety of different IPA's as always. I'll be on the Ghost Ship this week. Picked up
a fifty worth of green last night and 8x 440ml for £9 from the Tescos this very morning. And some Hot Cross buns.

I think the no drink month idea is more about escaping from the routine of just getting drunk every weekend, rather than some sort of alcoholics thing.

When I lived in Australia I only drank beer on two occasion. So that was pretty much 10 months of not boozing, really.

The effects were quite noticeable. Mood was better, felt less anxious. I also felt more emotional which was annoying. I'd watch a film and actually feel something on some of the more emotionally charged scenes. That was weird.

Nope.

A minimum of 3 days between drinking (so the liver recovers, and you don't build up a tolerance), setting a limit that's appropriate for your body weight (not necessarily the latest one-size-fits-all NHS advice) and never exceeding it come what may, sticking to wine or beer, never mixing your drinks, and you're OK. Obviously, if you have a dependency or some health problems, abstinence may be a better idea (consult your doctor).

I barely drink at all nowadays, don't have the time or the inclination. When I was younger and a Friday and Saturday night pub regular it was an enjoyable way to socialise and relax. So... don't spend your money on that, give it to us instead and get your mates to give us their money too.
All charities can f right off.

Nope.

I stopped drinking for 6 weeks a couple of years ago. Gained nothing by it.

Towards the end I remember driving into work one morning thinking "Hope I don't get stopped by the cops, I feel like shite, must be still over the limit.". Then realised I hadn't had a drink for 6 weeks.

Conclusion. It's not a hangover, I just suck at mornings.

I think I have some sort of super-liver. Takes me ages and a lot of money to get pissed. I always seem to blow clear on home breathalyzers despite having drunk ridiculous amounts the night before. Also had liver function tests recently. All fine.
