Some of you might remember a thread I'd started here asking about advice on potential sealants or glues I could use in an art project I wanted to create.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=327778

Long story short I managed to complete it whilst learning a lot of extra skills and methods along the way. In the end I chose Sikaflex 221 as that adhesive for the glass to metal.
This was the finished item:

Not the best of images but you get the idea.
Anyway, I've had heaps of praise for this one including from actual artists (we network) who all do their own random things.
I spotted a competition poster at Metal Supermarkets when I was visiting one day - a competition that covered the UK, Canada and the USA. Each one having its own grand prize winner. I've just won the grand prize for the UK in this competition by entering the butterfly artwork I'd made!!
To say I'm shocked is an understatement. For me these metal sculptures I make are simply ideas and things I use as distractions when my mind is working a little hard. They calm me basically.
The prize I've won is a plasma cutting system worth around £1600 in the UK.

Some here will know I learnt my metalworking skills at a coal mine as a blacksmith/welder. Mines closed and I was unable to continue in metalworking but I still hung on to those skills at home in a way which keeps me sane. A distraction of sorts.
I seriously encourage anyone who fancies learning welding/smithing skills to just do it. Lots to learn and then comes the practice. It will come in handy - even in these days of technology.

Thank you.
Winning things is rare and to be honest my past year or two has been pants. Things like this give a massive boost to me.

Yup I saw other stuff but still decided it was worth entering because you'll only win if you actually go for it.

Nah. The original idea came when I found some broken stained glass pieces on a demolition site floor. Random glass colours within the dirt and even within the mud it looked pretty. Fragments of lead from that I took for making fishing weights but I also took the glass because it was too pretty to throw away. Basically the glass fragments sat around a while and I made a MK1 sculpture that an ex kept.

This one is literally strip steel with glass glued in at a central point. It's not 'H' section steel like stained glass lead is shaped.

That's genuinely great, well did.

It's also nice to know your works are respected by your peers.

I really like that. Thumbs Up

My one observation (I'm not calling it a criticism because it isn't) is that it would look more delicate with smaller framing where it supports the glass if that is possible on your next one.

Yes!
I actually tried sourcing thinner more suitable strip bar but it wasn't readily available. One solution was to guillotine some sheet steel and bend to suit but I couldn't be bothered!
It's good that others see the problem too.
I'd also add that too much glue was applied but this was a learning piece and handling that stuff is difficult at first..

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone.
I'll be doing a series of similar things over the coming months - the first being a dragonfly. The body is mostly made and the wings are cut, shaped and ready to weld up. The flowers are made too. Just need the time to do it.
I'm also about to make a climbing rose for the side of my chimney breast here in the living room. It'll climb a corner with some going along the top of the front of the breast and some heading out along the ceiling.
