Bike is RC8, LC8 engine.

Need to get clutch basket out, don't have correct tool Crying or Very sad
Where to buy, tomorrow?

Otherwise, do have welder, air tools and scrap steel.

Ideas, tips, experiences in the field with nothing but a lolly stick etc. gratefully received.

IF you take two plates (friction and metal) and rivet them together, then put them back into the basket, putting the gearbox in gear will hold the basket in place. Other solution would be sticking something soft between the clutch basket teeth and the crank case cog teeth.

*Where to get plates? Well, you're replacing them, don't you? So use the old ones.

EDIT: If you are not replacing the plates, or you don't have an old set that would fit, that could be used as described above, OR you can't stick something in there, then I've got no idea. Smile

EDIT II: Using the air tool could take the nut off without any other tools, however you won't be able to put it back and tighten it without any retention. Thinking

OR, you could make this, IF you've got enough space around. https://www.amckayltd.com/clutchtool.jpg

You can make one (the Haynes style is two pieces of flat iron bar, curved into right angles at one end, with a pivot join in the middle to form an "X") or use an old belt wound around the basket to hold it (I never managed to make that work).

I've got something like this:
https://www.lasertools.co.uk/product/6283

I'm glad I bought it as it does the job perfectly well. If you're going to buy one, first check that the diameter of your clutch basket is within the jaws' opening range, and when you use it clamp it down so it's snug. EBC does clutch basket holders for specific bikes which can't slip, which are a bit like the homemade one pictured above.

Won't your air impact wrench undo the nut if you just push on the plates while undoing the nut?

Can't you ask your local bike shop to lend you their tool for a few quid? OR you could ask any BCF member in your vicinity.

Old plates going back in unless damaged.

Air impact might be ok to get it off, but I believe the tightening torque is 130Nm so needs to be held steady.

The official KTM tool looks like a slot in ring with teeth that interlock the basket and case, with enough teeth to spread the load nicely.

I may just buy a tool, and wait, I've got another bike to get my adrenalin fix Laughing

Clutch centre nut will almost certainly come on and off with your burp gun. I generally wrap a strap-wrench round the centre to offer some resistance. With torqueing up again to the right tension, I mark the position of the nut where I started and turn it to the same position when I put it back on.

I stop outer baskets turning by jamming a bit of folded denim in the gear.

I've got one of the converted mole grips types which does clutch and flywheel. It works well.

25 miles or so away, decided to just use gun after it came out easy enough.
One of the clutch spring bolts was loose so good job I didn't postpone it much longer. All threadlocked now so hopefully fine until next week.
