Oh! A lovely goldfinch! How sweet!

EDIT: Sorry, I meant collared dove.

EDIT AGAIN: No, you're having us on. It's made of pottery or something in fact.

EDIT AGAIN: Unless it's the yellow thing in the tree above the shed? It looks like an apple to me.

Really large pictures tend to do that. I've been reducing things down to 1024x768 (or 768x1024 portrait) and they seem to display better.

Did you manage to get it out without personal injury?

After shutting the dog in the living room, she moved slowly to the window to let it out - it stayed watching her, but then decided to fuck off out of the door it came in. No hawkshit anywhere, which is a bonus Smile

So what is it then? Female kestrel?
In the first pic, the head looks kind of nightjar-ish, but that can't be right.

Is there such a thing?
I'm aware some species have a primary food preference but they'll all eat pretty much anything.

Seen a chicken eat a frog? I have.

Sitting in kitchen, spot a young Thrush in the garden.
Ahh cute, with its slightly gangly stance and......booof.....mmm, where did it go? ........some feathers slowly fall from the sky.

Sparrowhawks. Fast bastards.

You will be able to tell when it's killed something in your garden. There will be a large puff of feathers spread around, for sparrowhawks pluck their prey; usually they carry the dead/dying bird off a way and do the business there. I have seen a female sparrowhawk taking a youngish pigeon before. Whenever you see a lot of feathers in a smallish area on the ground - "sparrowhawk".

I have, it's pretty brutal!!
Got to get that thing squished to fit Razz

One of mine used to like fishing. A few times she'd been chased around the garden with a goldfish clamped between her beak.

I've also seen her with I believe a sparrow in her gob. Just tail feathers and legs sticking out the side of her mouth.

Ever seen a wren brutalise a caterpillar?
Have a video somewhere of mini murder happening in the garden.
Squishy!

People don't realise that chickens (Free range at least) are fucking brutal. They'll eat any critter, rodent, small animal that ventures into the runs. I've seen 6 or 7 hens skeletonise mice several times. What we feed them is the staple diet, anything that moves is a bonus.
