it was overbanding - a wet tar seam coupled with a bit of steering and a lot of throttle

there's a gif of it somewhere, it was posted the other month

That particular gif has made me wary of winding on the throttle too enthusiastically when commencing an overtake. Thumbs Up Useful to learn from others (unfortunate!) mistakes

otoh it's usually a good idea to get any overtake completed as quickly as possible (although any sense of urgency shouldn't ever lead to rushed observations and the useful guiding thought that it's often safer to look for reasons to NOT overtake, rather than opportunities to do so)

also, and equally obvious, try to avoid changing gear when overtaking - if you select a false neutral halfway through the manoeuvre, you'll lose drive quickly and have to faff around trying to get the bike into gear whilst you're on the wrong side of the road...thus ensure you're in the right gear before even starting to pass

I didn't experience any offs on my CBT, but when doing my DAS the training yard had scratches all around it. One guy apparently lost control and kept the throttle open, went flying into the wall and then into the office which was a shipping container and moved it 6 inches! And that's after they had passed a CBT

I fall off all the time - it's almost always because I'm going too fast for the conditions and/or because I run out of talent.
