PostPosted: 13:12 - 15 Sep 2019    Post subject: Yamaha YBR Chain Adjusters Reply with quote

Hi Guys

Im new to riding and recently bought myself a YBR 125 last month. Im doing a service myself and other general maintenance around the bike including adjusting the chain, however I've noticed both adjusters are different to each other (see photos) the one on the exhaust side looks like the correct one but the one on the sprocket side looks different.

Can anyone shed some light on if this is okay or should I buy a replacement? I cant see how the "incorrect" one could adjust the chain Confused

Thanks

This should be in "The Workshop".

However, it looks to me as though both adjusters are the same; is there a piece missing from the nearside one, or has the adjusting bolt been replaced with a short one? Something like that?

Edit: Yes, lots on eBay. The bolt should have a locknut on it to tighten against the threaded metal piece just inside the hole on the rear of the adjuster. Someone's probably lost the bolt & piut whatever they had that would fit on instead.

Yep, as above both chain adjusters are the correct part, but the driveside one someone has lost the locknut and bolt and just chucked a random hex head bolt in there.

Should be able to pick up a spare easily enough I would have thought.

New ones are easy and cheap enough to buy
I put some on a YBR a while ago and dont recall them being expensive

The important thing for now is to make sure the aligment is right
by comparing the notch on the adjuster to the marks on the swinging arm

your rear spocket looks fucked and judging on the position of the adjusters your chain is stretched as fuck.

Replace them and the front sproket before the chain snaps and wrecks your engine casings/leg.

The chain tension adjusters being so different on each side will be doing bad things to the wheel bearings.

That is making the assumption that there isn't a reason why they're set like that.

You can use something long and straight, be it a piece of timber, piece of metal, a long enough ruler or spirit level, etc etc etc, to check how straight the wheel alignment. Hold the long straight thing against one side of the rear wheel and from that you can see what direction the wheel is pointing in compared to the bike. I hope that makes some type of sense, someone else will probably be able to explain it better than I have. Laughing

There are probably other mechanical oddities around the bike for you to find. Laughing

I agree with that post. Can you add a picture of the rear sprocket, sideways on, lower rear quadrant? It would be interesting.
