My iPhone 8 seems to be getting a bit slower and less fluid in use. Am I being cynical in noticing the arrival of the new 11 and making two and two equal five in thinking there may be a connection? It has just had an update in the last month or so as I remember...

I recall speculations that earlier iPhones were being slowed by updates in order to "extend battery life." Your cynicism may be well-placed.

Yes that happened and Apple were forced to admit it; they ended up having to fit discounted replacement batteries to punters who were affected.

However I don't think the OP is anything more than a victim of the continually ongoing spiralling 'arms race' between iPhone software and hardware - where Apple own both sides of that 'conflict' Pisses me off big time.

One of the biggest cons is that if you upgrade your iphone operating system and find it slows down the phone too much, Apple make it physically impossible to revert to the previous iOS. Unbelievable.

Also. I have a fairly early iPad somewhere; used to use it for all sorts of stuff but eventually was too old to accept any new iOS updates. In turn, that meant that third party apps were no longer available for it. So although my iPad actually workds as well as it did when I bought it, I can't actually use it for anything any more apart from a bit of internet browsing.

Go into Settings>battery>battery health.

What does it say?

How much free storage is there on it?
When was the last time it was rebooted?

The battery was replaced in the last six months for another supposed genuine Apple battery (the back was being replaced as it was buggered anyhow so while it was in bits I had the battery changed as well). The battery is apparently at 90% capacity, and I’m using 22 out of 64GB.
By rebooted do you mean off and on again or something more? I did the off and on thing just a few days ago when the Three network started playing dozy bleeders.

Just done a reboot in accordance with the on line advice. I’ll see how this goes!
