I have a 1998 bike with a current drain problem on the yellow wire. Following disconnecting the stator my meter shows 1.2 ohms on both yellow and white charging wires to earth as well as to each other. I thought the general rule on testing stators is that there should be an open circuit to earth (stator frame). Also connected to the charging coils appears to be a green wire which suggests deliberate earthing, see image. Can someone please clarify the set up.
Note: meter error : touching the red black probes together shows 0.5 ohms, which could mean the 1.2 is really 0.7 ohms.[/img]

Thats not a meter error.
Everything has resistance however small and shorting meter leads
together and noting their resistance before measuring an expected small resistance ( like stator windings for instance)
is, or should be, common practise.
If you RTFM you'd see the windings are not isolated from ground
so a reading between the Y and W wires to ground should not come as a surprise.

I believe there should be zero resistance between white and yellow (with regulator detached) because these are effectively separate coils; one for AC direct lighting output (regulated though), and one for DC battery charge.
My own meter readings on a 2000 model confirm this.

Correct me if I am wrong.

You need to think this through

Reading the comment of the op I feel he doesn't know the difference between resistance and continuity....
