My new to me speed triple has come with the lead attached for an optimate charger. Will the lead be the same across the range

Not necessarily. Older units used the so-called "Tamiya" connector. Newer ones use an SAE connector. You can get adaptors.

Look at Ctek. I've had Ctek on my bikes since 2011.
Smaller than others and I have found them more reliable. The optimate I had went in the landfill about a year or so after I bought it.
I used Hein Gerike and they failed after a couple of years.
I think Ctek sell for about 45 notes.

Unless you buy 2nd hand the Optimate is going to come with the battery connection anyway so if it's different to the on on your battery now you just swap it out.
