My bike insurance is due for renewal in about 4 weeks. I’ve just received an email from my insurer out of the blue saying: “As an insurance broker every year we go out to a panel of insurers to try and find you the best price available based on the information we hold about you.

Unfortunately, based on the most up to date details we have available, our panel of insurers were unable to offer you a renewal quote for your bike insurance policy.

This means that on xxx yyy your bike will no longer be insured and you will need to seek alternative insurance.”

This is despite no claims or incidents since I took out the policy, no change of address etc. Now I’d certainly have shopped around anyway come renewal time, but I’m really worried about the dreaded question they all ask you ‘have you ever been turned down for insurance’?’ or whatever. Do I now legally have to answer ‘yes’ to that, through no fault of my own?? WT actual F? Shocked

Nah, you never applied so you were not turned down I would say.

It could be that that insurance broker only deals with insurers that will not insure your bike anymore. The Mrs had the same with her car in the past, in that case it was to do with me being a named driver and having a willy iirc. Very Happy

Their panel of underwriters have changed their criteria for insuring vehicles/owners. You no longer meet that criteria.

It is not a refusal/declination to insure to declare. You'll be fine.

This. I had something similar years ago with a heavily modified car; my specialist insurer suddenly decided to stop insuring my postcode area

Had it yesterday. Underwriter won't insure the new work hack without carting 20KG of locks and chains around, so cancelled the policy that was on the 125 rat, and got a new policy for the work hack.

Wouldn't worry. My underwriters changed and they no longer covered modified sports bikes. Went elsewhere easy. But no, you don't say yes to that.

They haven't declined to insure, they have declined to quote for a new policy.

So I've just visited the meerkat site looking for a new quote, and bugger me, my existing insurer comes up on the list of quotes (and with a not-outlandish figure either).

Very weird - I'll never understand insurers. I'm not going to bother following up, as I got better quotes anyway. But still.

Me too!!!!!

I went from a 4 bike multi policy with Carole Nash for under £500 to a 2 bike policy and they wanted over £1500 after wasting 2 hours of my life on the phone. They got told where to go

I've been riding without a claim since the 1970's.

That happened with me too. I can only presume the multi bike insurer Carole Nash used decided to stop insuring because it was a ridiculous rise in premium.

As much as I didn't particularly like using them, MCE became the cheapest for multibikes after that for me.

And me this time around. Increased by a factor of 10 for no apparent reason! I actually felt a bit sorry for the bloke in the call centre; he clearly was embarrassed by the situation but had his hands tied.

If you use a comparison site some brokers/insurers will not return a result.
If you change the filters (of your search not the fucking bike) then some of those that did not return a result can be seen.
There's no 'panel' unless they mean a panel of fucking buttons and switches.
Remember, they are arseholes.
