Hey chaps, as I'm doing my yearly car oil change, and done 3k with the bike already I want to do it too including filter as idk when po did it.

Unfortunately, my manual does not specify much other than the viscosity for the given temperature range, no volume, no recommendation of manufacturer...It does however specify the amount of oil in the forks though Laughing

I've searched for the bike specs but didn't find any with an amount. Is it just gonna be the case of filling it up, turning it over a bit to fill the filter, then rechecking the dipstick and filling?

Also, what do you understand from this:
"1. Use the oil by the classification API -not
lower se (se, SF, SG)."

I was going to use either motul or castrol 10w-40 Neutral

Just use the 10w-40, the others are for more extreme hot or cold places.
Sometimes the amount needed is shown by the filler, otherwise see what comes out when you drain it. In any case if it said 3 litres you wouldn't just tip exactly that in I suspect.

My 400Sf had it on the side of the oil casing in ml.

Wikipedia (urch, spleeing) has 3.6-3.8L dep. on model, claimed as manufacturers spec, gives something to aim at.

Edit: other soutces 2.7/3.2! Suck it and see seems the best approach the dipstick should not lie.

That's all you really need to know. 10W-40 will be fine.

no volume

The CB400F (CB-1) manual says:

At draining: 2.9 litres
With filter: 3.1 litres
At dissassembly 3.5 litres

The Super Four should be around the same.

I'm surprised they missed the opportunity to recommend
Honda branded oil.

Yes, it is as simple as that. Be glad the SF has a centre stand,
so you won't need an assistant.

Those are obsolete API specs. It is safe to use oil with newer
API specs provided you avoid 'energy conserving' types that
might not be compatible with the wet clutch in your Honda.

Flash bastard with your 'proper' bike oil. I use regular 10W-40
semi-synthetic from the local auto factors, currently Valvoline All-Climate.
Half the price of similar spec bike oil.

Just fill it, keep checking the dipstick. Run. Stop and recheck.

Why do people overcomplicate life?
