I wondered whether buying one of these for use as a 4 seasons commuter would be an excellent idea? I'm a little concerned the power of the generator might not be up to operation in the extended hours of darkness, would the battery need extra charging? Will it handle well especially on wet/icy/salty roads, and be very reliable, it would not do to break down? Is there anything in particular to look out for?

I've seen the wheels corrode really badly on a 2015-ish model. Would be a warranty job.

It will be a reliable, modern bike. Not sure why you're thinking the alternator is underspecced or would need additional charging. It won't.
Drawbacks are the weight (very heavy indeed, and you would notice it) and the torque in winter. It won't wheelie, it will spin up the rear in the wet when you're pulling away.

The lights on all modern UK bikes are always on. It matters not one jot if it’s dark or not.

I heard it handles, stops and pulls better than most other bikes on the road, new or used.
It seems it's basically a 98 R1 for the new generation.
(And yes, pretty scary that soon people will be able to ride bikes on the road that were born after that meme started, if not now.)

No. Pick something less exotic. If you bin it, you could lose a lot of money. Buy an adventure bike with a screen and traction control. Yamaha Tracer?

I don't mean to start a fire here, BUT:
Op asks about buying a HD <cruiser> -> Harley driver defending new Harleys to his teeth in other thread saying they handle better than most bikes -> suggests a sport tourer which imo is fugly compared to 80% of Harleys

It's only 4k more than a 900 tracer, 6k than a 700, not sure if that classifies as exotic, but with that money I would get a CB1000R + all Rukka gear, personally, that's a neo retro sports naked though, not a cruiser.

Get a clip-on yourself!! Use your damn knowledge and give him some proper cruiser advice!

Even that is better than suggesting a different bike altogether Laughing

Practical note: lots of intricate metalwork on a HD to get mucked up in winter riding; fine if you're not bothered about it looking nice, but to keep on top of it would require huge effort surely?

It'll be fine, but possibly problematic on icy roads, due to it's weight as much as anything, so, it's not alone there. As for keeping the crud/rot at bay ..

Dry it and ..

Start again with acf-50

On a regularish basis, you should be fine. Well, if that works for all my chinese bikes I've owned, it should work for pretty much any other, well, when I say pretty much any other, that is except a Triumph America, that will rot regardless

Epic trolling, my friend Thumbs Up

Just in case you are serious: get a Himalayan. Costs fuck all (if we're talking a new bike) and happy to run in all weathers and all road conditions.

Quite frankly, from 1.8 litre I'd be expecting 240 bhp from a lazy bike engine.

How much would a first/second gen. Triumph rocket III cost these days. 110 kW with almost 200 Nm of torque. Thinking
