That Yamaha 900cc Alien is a cool thing though, because it'll appeal to a few well paid millenials who want to be different and are scared of bikes. It's got none of the merits of a useful trike and it's not going to be mainstream unless they sell 20 for every R1 world wide.

I understand why Chickenstrip doesn't feel anything but numb about electric bikes, but I'd like a go on a really good one. If in a few years you can have Fireblade performance and weight with a 150mile worst case scenario range for a price that's not more than the last of the ICE bikes then they'll have plenty of appeal.

It's took a while for me to realise that people like me are so far from the typical mainstream new bike buying public. I recently read a copy of Ride magazine and they talked about USB's Bluetooth and electronics most of the time. But then so do their readers.

People liking analogue old sports bikes and mad thrashing on Sundays are the slightly weird minority types and we're slowly dying out as is brand loyalty and antisocial antics. I've seen enough to have the memories too and that's also fine with me.

I watched a YouTube vid recently where some arrogant fucker with a subscriber following drives people's cars like a twat and films it for his channel. He featured a bloke who'd spent 20years building a V8 carb fed supercharged Ford Capri with about 350bhp. Most people said it was old fashioned crap and they'd much rather own a generic new Audi S5 Quattro because its got tech and driver modes etc. It sums up young people perfectly.!

It's young people's world stevo. But since they've done everything in their power to fuck up mine before I'm done with it, I'll do everything I can to fuck up theirs before I leave it Laughing

Mind you, I think they're making a pretty good job of that themselves. My guess is that they'll figure it out one day, when it's too late.

But I digress Laughing

The technology for an electric sports bike is, simply, not good enough, at the moment.
Just have a look at TT Zero, you're lucky to get 3 finishers over a 1 lap, 37.73 mile, race, the majority of the bikes can't even manage 1 lap.
Even the bikes that do make it round can't run at full power for a whole lap, they'd run out of battery.
Unless there's a massive leap forward in battery technology, very soon, the only electric bikes you're going to see in your lifetime are going to have the performance of a moped or at best a, very, wheezy 125!

I recall a figure of 85:15 r/f split in drive ratio. Seems they managed to make it variable. It must have been a development mule I'd read about as it had never been raced. It's likely only ever going to be beneficial on an enduro type scenario.

Nah. I remember when those hydraulic hub motors came out. Someone built one on a concept supersports bike. It was pure madness, almost impossible to lose the back-end. They were backing the fucker into corners like a drift car with smoke pissing off the tyre, laying a darkie all the way round the corner and the front wheel was just pulling the bike round after it.

Found a brief by MCN. It was an R1. Over 10 years ago. Not sure what they thought of it because I can't hear sound in videos at the moment, hard disc shat itself so I'm on an ancient copy of puppy linux.
