R I P Richard Stokes Leeds

Hi , My mate Richard Stokes was a dyed in the wool biker , he had a RoSPA gold advanced motorcycling award to his name . On Saturday 28th September 2019 he went with his wife to Majorca for a weeks holiday , On the 5th October he was taken ill on his return at Palma airport and was rushed to hospital and put in intensive care.
Unfortunately the hospital was a private hospital and three days later his wife had a bill for €17,500 (His insurance company are not prepared to cover these costs ! ) .
He was then transferred to a public hospital where his condition deteriorated, he suffered organ failure . He was then taken to a hospital in Barcelona by air ambulance , they took a biopsy of his liver and diagnosed lymphoma .
Sadly Richard passed away 3 days later, with his wife daughter and sister by his side.
Not only is his wife facing the hospital bill for €17,500 , she also has a bill for €5100 for his repatriation , and then his funeral costs .
A just giving site was set up by his daughter Emily Stokes in the hope of helping her mother in this heartbreaking time with the financial burdens .
We have contacted most of his biker mates , as we are planning a guard of honour from the church service to the crematorium in Leeds .
A date has not been set as yet ,as Richard was only repatriated today 24/10/19 .
If anyone can help in anyway it would be very much appreciated !

I'm guessing he knew he had a form of cancer before his holiday, to die a few days after arriving. You can kind of see why the travel insurance are not going to pay out.

I saw you...
Hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line.

Perhaps the OP would like to comment and clear this up for us. There seems to be a lack of information.

I'm not at all clear why it isn't possible that the estate could bear the burden of the deceased's death. What's the explanation? Are there lots of other debts to pay, a mortgage, etc.? What is the value of the estate?

What steps have been taken to inform the Spanish medical practice that the estate is in the process of being administered by an executor? What timeframe has the estate arranged or been given to clear this debt? Has the estate taken out a bridging loan pending resolution of any complaint or resolution process against the insurance company? Is there any complaint/resolution process in progress currently?

What are the grounds given by the insurance company for denying liability in this case? The page says they're trying to "wriggle out" of paying the medical and repatriation bills. That makes absolutely no sense. They would have refused, with reasons. What were the reasons given?

As it stands, a stranger dies, and someone says, literally, "just give me" to the whole world. This is not in the least bit dignified, to be frank, especially given the lack of circumstantial information.
