What effing planet do you live on where children walk to school? In my childhood, my journey could be anything from a 3 mile each way walk, to a 2 mile cycle, 15 mile train ride, then another 3 mile cycle.
I've seen parents taking the kids to school in a car, where there are so many others doing the same, that the nearest parking spot is almost as far away as the start of their journey. I'm serious too.
I had 2 paper rounds from the age of 10. I worked in a hotel kitchen from 13. Even kidults at University tend to borrow more instead of getting off their arse and finding a part time job now. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

You don't have kids, nor have you spent years doing the 'school run'. This is obvious.
There are always some who take their kids to school in cars, particularly infants and juniors, and schools actively discourage this by making it hard to park nearby by requesting TROs on adjacent streets. Don't make the mistake of thinking that the whole reason roads are quieter during school holidays is because kids aren't being driven to school - much of it has to do with the fact that parents take time off to look after their kids.
Unless you are talking about an isolated school or a particularly posh one, the reality is that most kids either walk or get the bus. Not many cycle these days because the roads are too busy.
I am very happy to hear that you had a paper-round and that you worked in a hotel kitchen. ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

And somehow that means I don't get stuck in traffic as Tarquin and Jemima get taken the 500 yards to school in their Chelsea tractors does it? You are an odd one.

Not in the '70's and '80's there wasn't. it was practically unheard of, as was a multi car family.

Yeah, the roads are full of women driving kids to school at that time of the morning!
Things must be way different down here then, because I live within a mile of 4 schools and have done so for over 30 years. The school run has definitely got more out of control over the last 5 years.

The school on our estate is a nightmare at picking up time (I can't say about morning, I'm not usually up then ).
The mothers park every and anywhere. Doublr yellows, Zig zags by crossings, double park etc. Say anything and you get the 'I'm picking up my kids, I have rights'
Do not go near black women driving people carriers, they have no spacial awareness and obviously learnt to drive in Lagos. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Mine walked with me when they were little. By Year 4 they wouldn't be seen dead walking with a parent so they made their own way. ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

I'm not saying for a minute that there aren't gangs of parents clogging up the road outside schools when dropping off their little darlings in the morning. It only takes a small percentage of the overall school population to make a major impact on the highway. What I am saying is that in my experience this is a minority and that the majority either walk or catch the bus. Likewise it only takes a few cars stopped by a school to bring traffic to a grinding halt. Doesn't mean that all parents do it... ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

I know you are out of touch with what kids get up to nowadays, but surely even you must appreciate that kids in Year 4 (9 year olds) aren't allowed to drive ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

I agree entirely, but that wasn't your point. What you said was that

Eh? No, you're missing the point. Hardly anyone in my generation were driven to school. Far too many of this generation are, most of which is completely unnecessary.
We're back to the old lefty defence of Islam, with the "not all Muslims" analogy. It may not be all, but the vast majority of child bowling up terrorists and child raping sex grooming gang members in the country are Muslim, mainly Pakistani men.
I see that as an inherent issue with the culture of that minority group. You see it as a reason to defend those not involved, whilst ignoring those who are the problem. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

I explained it perfectly well enough. It's a perfect analogy with how Diggs and I see other things, such as the argument we were having about the generation being driven to school. By "this generation" I was separating them from other generations, Diggs tries to make a point of distinguishing between all kids in "this" generation, comparing the kids within rather than comparing the generation to the others.
I'm sure you could work that out for yourself, but I suppose you saw an opportunity to whine about it, so jumped at the chance. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.
