Being in IT quite often I get roped in to help the computer illiterate (and even the literally illiterate) with things like eBay or on-line government services...

I was attempting to pay for a family member's Congestion Charge and it said that their vehicle did not need to pay. Is it electric? "No, diesel" WTF? No CC and no ULEZ?! Have you got the V5? "I think it's with the car stuff..."

It says "taxation class: mobility." Now I'm assuming that's some sort of disabled thing. Who filed in this V5? "The man did." The man? "Yes, the nice young man at the dealership." okay...

AFAIK it's the responsibility of whoever is selling the car to fill in the V5. Does this include correcting the mobility thing? Also, could my relative get into any trouble over this?

I suppose it could be classed as fraud but I wouldn't bother about it personally. I doubt the Flying Squad will be battering his back doors in.

It's not as if HE registered it as a mobility car. Blame the salesman if anything ever surfaces.

You need to go to the Post office to change the taxation class, I did it a good few years ago with a disabled vehicle. It might be easier now.

Is it a new car? I only ask because my mothers 'friend' is disabled and has 'bought' cars before and refused delivery various times for random reasons..presumably the docs were registered by the dealer for a disabled person, not sure you can decide what taxation class it is based on the v5 and if you can and it is disabled it's gonna need some paperwork backup to make that happen.

Still need to do post office and pay VED up front. I just got a car that was disabled taxation class.

Why, being a cunt doesn't help anyone.

My time is free, people have helped me with mechanical stuff, moving house etc, no reason to not chip in for free when you can do it in 5 minutes rather than someone taking hours...

Now now Paddy.
There is give and take in all walks of life.
but there are people who will be more than happy to take and very reluctant to give.

Our builder ^^^
We've known him for a fair few years now, had a lot of work done by him, _never_ had any mate's rates or freebies - we just know his work so go back to him.
He came to us to get some forms sorted (my wife is a solicitor) - he totally expected a freebie, if I asked him to spend 30~60 minutes doing something for me, he'd put a price on it. It's strange how some people charge for their own time but don't value other people's time or skills.
