The Volkspods scooters use custom-built frames with Volkswagen engines built in and covered by type 1 classic Beetle model fenders. It is equipped with a retro bike handlebar, a seat, as well as head- and tail lights. there are two classic variants: birch green and pastel blue.

The original (green) has a 79cc motor and is more for looks than it is practical. The second (blue) one has more ground clearance and a 212cc motor. It is more practical to ride around on the road.

Short wheel base, tiny tyres, 212cc... what could possibly go wrong?

They should call it the Nutcracker, as that is exactly what's going to happen in a head on collision. Thinking

Oh yes. Sitting outside their hipster wine bar drinking out of a jamjar and gazing longingly at a motorised beetle mudguard. Thumbs Up Laughing

Probably the same thing that went wrong for the guy who went sprinting at London City Airport on an Ariel 3 with a CBR600 engine fitted.

He was lucky to get away with just a broken leg...

It's fucking hideous. It may have even made sense if it were made from an actual Beetle wing, in an upcycling kind of way. Scooters often have some element of both storage and wind protection. This appears to have neither.

If they used the fender as the rear bodywork of a properly designed scooter and a bonnet inspired front piece, it could look quite smart, but it would have to have some useful storage as well, like the bonnet opening up like a clam shell or something, to be beetle inspired.

That thing is an exhibition piece only.

These look fun. I judge the unusual by how much I want to make one myself . . . & I reckon I could knock one of these up in a day or three.

There's no VW engines in those scooters unlike what you stated. They are Chinese clone industrial/power equipment motors and will be extremely crude and underpowered.

They should have bought some new Piaggio or Minarelli twist and go engines to make a better job of it.

Yes, it does look like the sort of thing you'd find on lawn mower Smile
