Hi guys. I am about to ship from the UK to Romania an Er5 1997. Does anyone know if the headlight will need converting? If so any ideas on how I can do it.

Thanks

Bod

Yours will dip to the right which would be an MOT fail.

It's a simple round headlamp so you'd just need a UK specification insert of the correct diameter. Or even a complete new headlamp unit. They look very similar to the 250LC copy headlights that you can get all over the place.

Or get a second hand UK spec headlamp for your bike off ebay.

As a temporary measure, you can blank out part of the lens with black tape to prevent it dazzling people. This will make the headlamp legal (but less bright).

From memory, it's the following bit of the lens (in red) you need to blank out but it's been a long time since I did one.

Heya. Thanks for the info. It's going from the UK so I'll need a European glass. Hmm. Need to find the diameter.

Thanks a lot

This is what i did on my xj900f before going to Belgium.
My Blackbird had a flat dipped beam from D.K. motorcycles.

I have a French bike in the UK and tape exactly where it is on the picture works to make dip beam OK for the UK. To take a bike from UK to Romania I guess you would need take on the other side.

You can buy sealed beam inserts of all sizes. It LOOKS like a 7". Not sure how it fits, they usually fit inside the rim with wire spring clips (which are dead nippy to fit/remove, wear goggles!).

Sorry I misread your post about which direction you were travelling. You can buy RH dip sealed beam inserts in the UK. The place I get my enfield parts from does them in 7" and 5.75" inserts that take modern H4 bulbs.

Renault 4 and citroen 2CV have cibie headlamp inserts which are very good. I bet there are a load of Renault 4s in Romania. I wonder if the diameter is correct.Thinking

I used to cut up metal wire coat hangers to replace knackered headlight springs.
