Sat on one of these today at the bike show; sat on a whole load of bikes actually but this for just felt right. Seriously tempted (new or nearly new) but is there anything I should know about this unusual engine configuration before I take the plunge? For various reasons I need to get rid of my other two bikes and go down to one and this seems to be a great all rounder with a bit of character

They're surprisingly nice, looks aside. Workmate has a '12 plate XC. Exhaust heat shields are made of cheese - Have a close look, you can likely get pennies knocked off for this. Otherwise, they seem decent, said mate isn't known for keeping on top of much maintenence, and it's not let him down, and even survived a SMIDSY with just fork/wheel/etc replacements.

You definately want a nice can on one, the sound is awesome.

I'd still take the normal VFR's ergonomics though, but like looks, that'll be personal preference. Performance wise, there's a rizla paper between it and the normal VFR at speeds most people will do. Aerodynamics take a hit at instaban speeds on the crossrunner.

Go and buy a VFR 800FI -1998-2001- with some touring mods and enjoy an engne that isn't half assed till 7k RPM.

If OP thinks the crossrunner feels just right, they're probably not going to be wowed by the 5th gen's ergonomics. It's a 20 year old bike, or close enough, and OP want new or nearly new.

I'd buy a 5th gen in a heartbeat, but I like the ergonomics, even if they could do with losing a bit (lot) of weight.

Ended up with a Crossrunner. Very Happy I didn't care much for the ergs on the VFR800F - too much leaning forwards for my liking, I like the upright posture of the Crossrunner. Awesome bike to ride too as it happens. Mr. Green
