It's early days but looked at a trip to a warmer country (ie Portugal) and hiring a bike for 5 or so days. However this is very expensive so I might look to use my own bike and start at Calais.
Does anyone have any ideas? Have you done it before? Any recommendations? Advise etc?
Looking at about 7 days in may. Would be good to do it relatively cheaply and catch some decent sights on the way |
Are you used to riding big miles? That about 500/day for 5 days (return journey to Lisbon from Calais giving you a couple of days there. Not my idea of fun.. You can catch the Santander ferry from Plymouth but that quite a few quid and takes24 hrs each way. Your fly/hire would be much easier. ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

There are companies who will ship your bike and luggage out to somewhere less boring in Europe. You fly out and meet your bike there. Have fun from day 1 then fly home. Means you do not have to see either Dover or Calais!
Saves riding through the shit boring bits to get to the interesting bits. £££ though but beats spending 3 days of your holiday bombing along motorways to land up at the interesting roads tired and with square tyres.
A few mates have used a company called bikeshuttle which will drop your bike at Geneva or Tolouse. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
