Ok so we've found where all that metal actually came from Laughing

Any ideas on what would have caused this? Lack of oil like mentioned earlier?

He's looking at getting a new engine, but would it be a bad idea to repair this one if I can find a new barrel and piston and theres no further damage? I've yet to split the cases to see what all those pieces has done as I'm waiting for my castle nut socket for the clutch.

That engine is all but scrap. Look at the colour of the conrod, you can't build a new top end on top of a rod that's been so hot it's turned black. I'm guessing the little end has heat-seized cooking the rod and preventing the piston from rotating thus putting a side load on the skirt. It's splash-fed so yeah if it's been low on oil that's the cause.
Cut your (his) losses and find a replacement.

Not a bad idea, but is it worthwhile? My guess is that you'll be looking at:

Main bearings.
Crankshaft assembly.
Piston, rings & gudgion pin.
Possible barrel.

A whole lot of careful cleaning of the rest of the thing in solvent and preferably blowing dry with an air line.

Edit: It looks as though the cost of new parts considerably exceed the cost of a used engine for a "CBR125". So there you go.

Thanks that makes sense, any kind of repair would almost come to the cost of a engine anyway. He's got his module 2 next month so only really cares about getting it running again.

I think he's learnt a couple of lessons here about keeping regular maintenance checks and not being so damn lazy when it comes to inspecting problems.
