mpd, my dear friend, it is difficult in the extreme to assess your tastes. Some articles from The Critic:

Menace of the vegan militants
What you eat is just a lifestyle choice, not a way to save the world

Big fat lies
The Fat Activism movement is risking lives by suppressing obesity research

The real cowspiracy
Politicians fiddle as a beef cartel leaves farmers in existential crisis

No need to plead guilty
The fashionable doctrine of ‘white privilege’ is fatally undermined by the facts

And this is all "Champagne Socialist Shite" ?! Shocked

Marry me x

We're sitting on massive reserves of energy and instead they frack for gas..
If they want gas then why not chuck all of the plastics, tyres and dead kittens into a sealed oven. Heat and capture the gas and oils that come off. Carbon is captured as a whole and solid end product. Simple really but tell that to politicians who get bunged brown envelopes by the USA and Russia.

Loads of surplus Russian nuclear subs. Just hook them up around the coast. If one gets a bit dodgy just sail it off and dump it in the deeo ocean. Laughing

How many town do you think the reactor in a nuclear sub will
Power?

About 100,000 homes per submarine depending on output. 100,000 needs around 120 MW. Obviously demand increases and decreases during the day.
(I've no idea what those Russian subs chuck out but a modern sub makes around 200 MW and so I went for a smaller figure)

Does it matter any more?
Arguing over the pros and cons of nuclear, fossil fuels, fracking or bags for life seems to be a pointless exercise when scientists are starting to say that the planet is going to get hotter regardless of any preventative action taken.

I'm alright Jack, just so long as I can keep filling my 14mpg gas guzzler. Thumbs Up

You should have read it to the end.

It's an interesting article that makes the case for fracking, and against green protesters. Right up your street!

No it absolutely doesn't.

We are fcuked because no western government wants to implement the necessary austerity to fund actually useful procedures because they will never get voted in again and India, Brazil and China don't give a flying F anyway.

I'm alright Jack is a normal trait of humans and there would have to be a quantum change in the whole economic or political systems to create an environment that would allow the world wide implementation of measures necessary to put the brakes on climate change.

Anyway, my diesel guzzlers does 25 per gallon so I'm obviously a greenie. Thumbs Up

On the topic of gas guzzling cars - Correct me if I'm wrong but I think they're a diversion anyway. The general public are given the guilt trip of being told that their consumer choices are affecting the planet, yet nobody looks to the processes that cause the pollution in the first place. The two largest polluters, as far as I'm aware, are industrial processes and air travel. Driving car A or car B is beside the point.

It's also worth considering that 'gas guzzler' is not really an important definition anyway. You could have the least fuel-efficient vehicle on the planet, but if it has all the correct emissions technology attached it may be greener than any other!

That being said, electric cars are obviously better. If I could afford one, I'd certainly give a Tesla a go. I've read good things about them lately, beyond the 'green' aspects.

Teslas are just about the only electric car that's practical for distance work with it's quoted 400-500 range.

I'm not convinced about it's green credentials though as there are more and more articles saying it is no better over it's life cycle than any other car like this one.

https://www.dw.com/en/ifo-study-casts-doubt-on-electric-vehicles-climate-saving-credentials/a-48460328

And yes I agree it's all a smoke screen while we have 230000 flights a day. Brick Wall

https://www.flight-delayed.co.uk/news/2019/07/30/july-25-2019-aviations-busiest-day-in-history

July 25, 2019, also saw more than 230 thousand flights cruise through the sky all around the globe: Aviation’s busiest day in history. Shocked

Most environmental cost: making the car.
2nd biggest cost: scrapping the car.
3rd... you guessed it: driving the car.

By all means buy a more efficient car if you were about to buy one anyway. The problem with all this environmental nonsense is money gets directed to the wrong tech.

Hydrogen is a PITA. Natural gas fuel cells are more practical:

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/10/181029130939.htm

tl;dr Methane + Water => H2 + CO + O2 => Electricity + Water + CO2

And there's the problem. You have device that's more environmentally friendly than the ICE and hydrogen cars. But because it produces CO2 the researchers may as well say they're looking into how to kill kittens quicker Sad

<addendum> apologies for the oversimplification of the chemical process!
