This has been doing my head in, there is a song from the 70's all black group, skinny lead male singer. This really isn't much to go on, they might be from Birmingham.

OK. It's got the word sad in it. Maybe the title, deffo in the lyrics. Keep thinking Sad Café, (not that group).

In the video I remember from long long ago, all the singers were wearing purple outfits.

I've a new duplicated gift of a general hardback motorcycle repair manual, for whoever gets it and wants the book I'll post it free.

Nope, we don't access Youtube at work, but 40 years as a pop DJ gives me a head start in this sort of thing, going from the original description, it was a fair bet it would be that.

Pop trivia - that song was written by David Parton (who had a top 10 hit with Stevie Wonder's Isn't She Lovely) and he also recorded a solo album called Snaps, included on which was a track called The Ni66er's Coming - for some reason that doesn't get a lot of airplay Laughing
